He has a heck of a prey drive, for sure. He has some fear aggression from when he got attacked as a pup. Older dog faced the other dog down, knocked it back a few times, it ran around us and nipped the 6 month old. My Staffie grabbed the 70# dog that did it by the scruff of its neck and slammed it on the ground hard enough it did not try to get up at first. Like swinging a bucket on the end of a rope.

Staffie slept in the sun while they worked, unless my wife, went outside, then he watched those guys pretty close.

Oh my, poor dog, his eyes say everything. Whole thing just sucks, because now he probably won’t trust any dog he meets. Happened to my last foster dog, he got attacked twice. He was unhurt, but he then was ready to fight most any dog.

Bugsinrugs 09-16-2023 03:40 PM

He is such a docile guy. Bred to keep the royalty warm during cold winters. Hence.. lap dog.

Steve Carlton 09-16-2023 04:11 PM

Louie should heal up from that fine. Not sure about his behavior from here out. Is the neighbor paying the vet bill? What's happening with the neighbor's dog?

Baz 09-16-2023 04:49 PM

Give Louie some hugs from all of us, please.....and some extra treats!

Bugsinrugs 09-16-2023 05:16 PM

My daughter and her boyfriend are going to approach the neighbor to discuss with them. Louie is mostly a house dog that gets occasional walks. He is always leashed because he takes off without knowing how to get home.

Poor Louie ! I hope he heals up and can overcome any issues resulting from the attack. He looks so sad.

No doubt it varies by county, you can own a wolf hybrid in El Dorado but Sacramento Co. They probably would be better off talking to you, rather than their home owner's insurance or the sheriff.

Brindle was attacked twice as a pup, second time had to do the tie the hair together trick to reapproximate a laceration, worked well. Most vocal dog I ever saw. Makes a noise like a tribble from Star Trek when I first come home. Not the smartest thing, but he is pretty, and has sense enough to follow the smart one's lead.

A great story....now stop me if you have heard this one...

As most of you know I have 2 young dogs. The oldest is a Shepherd/Lab Male) who is 14 months old and just full of piss and vinegar. The younger of the 2 is a 11 month old Malinois (female).
Most mornings are fairly calm, except when they decide that I have slept long enough. Dad must get up now ! Normally this means the 2 of them do what they do to rouse me. The boy likes to jump on the bed and roll on me like a dead animal. The female puts her front paws on the bed and gives me little kisses. Sometimes I get up when I hear that they are awake and avoid the shenanigans....this is not that story.

Sunday morning I happened to hear them and even though it was still dark, I rose just as they camie into the bedroom. Lilly (the girl dog) hopped up on the bed...in the warm spot that I had just vacated. I bent over to pet her and let her give me my good morning kiss. The next thing I know is that I am partially on the bed, but slowly sliding off....and I am in incredible pain in the left side of my head. Boomer (the boy dog) is there, but due to the extreme pain...he, nor Lilly are the focus. I had to rely on the walls going down the hall to the kitchen. My wife who was up and knitting comes to see what is wrong. She heard me make a very strange sound and when she saw me basically making love to the wall so I wouldn't fall off the world, she came to help. I grabbed the first bag of frozen vegetables out of the freezer and applied them to my my head. The first problem was that I had grabbed frozen Brussel Sprouts, that was like putting frozen rocks on my head. Second problem was that the darkness was closing in. Thankfully my wife had put a kitchen chair behind me. I didn't hit the floor for a second time. The next thing I remember is her holding me and walking to the bed.
So , now the score is 2 TKO's....I am losing this fight. The wife gives me a bag of frozen peas...much softer, and some of my big pain pills. Slowly the pain starts to subside, just a little, that is how I knew I was still among the living. A few hours later, I could only guess at what had taken place. My assumption is that when I was bent over with my head turned to the right nose to nose with Lilly, that Boomer made a power leap to get on the bed and drove the hard bits of his skull into the weakest point of mine (some would say that ALL of my skull is the week point). I kept eating "the good stuff" to try and get the pain manageable. Come Monday morning I realized that I had prisms, blind spots, and very decreased visual accuity (blurry as heck) in my left eye. I gave the Dr a call, they said go to Urgent Care, Urgent care said that I needed my driver to take me to the ER post haste. Since I didn't have a driver, I went home and got my wife to take me. ER triage took me right back into treatment. Apparently they were looking for a brain bleed...so a CAT scan was done. I checked out ok, but was diagnosed with a severe concussion with loss of consciousness x2. No physical or mental anything for 10 days and possibly longer based on follow up with Dr. I still feel like crap and my head hurts, and thinking and typing are not my friends yet (this has taken me quite a bit due to all the mistakes).
I will heal but I was supposed to leave to visit my brother in Idaho, but flying is on the no-no list. So, I had to cancel the whole trip. Friday is his 72nd birthday and He was looking forward to me coming to see him. He is in an assisted care facility.
And the icing on the cake....when I told him that I was cancelling, he told that was good as the facility had 2 staff and 4 residents positive for COVID. So, I would have had to cancel anyway. That would have been the less painful way.

We think she is about 2, a foster turned adoptee ( I was told by the 2 daughters not to argue this). So smart, she came fully trained, I have run out of commands, she obeys them all. Last week a Latin friend commanded her in Spanish and she obeyed all those commands as well. Good with kids, squirrels not so much.
