Dante was expecting some cards from you guys for his 13th birthday Thursday. He didn't get a damn thing except some birthday carrots (his favorite snack). :D

A law enforcement friend had a police Malinois. That dog scared the living crap out of me  One time we were sitting in his living room with the dog and he had to go look for something, leaving me alone with the dog. He told the dog to sit and it sat motionless staring at me for 10 minutes. I was sweating profusely :D It was trained in Dutch.

Drunk man breaks into dog shelter after losing his own dog to cancer.

Staff thought it was a robbery when cameras caught him walking through the kennel aisle after midnight. The dogs were wide awake, watching him from behind the gates, and no one knew what he was doing there.

Then another camera showed him curled up on the floor, surrounded by dogs.

Police say he had been drinking that night after his dog died the week before. Nothing was stolen. No animals were hurt. He was arrested for breaking in, but shelter workers said the footage was hard to watch.

He didn’t come for money. He came because he missed his dog.

In a few minutes it will be 9:35.
Four years ago today at 9:45 AM I said goodbye to my best girl.
I clearly remember holding her for the last time.

It was one of the hardest days of my life.

I think about her every day. There will never be another Madison.

Our long haired dachshund, on the right, named Reese died last night. She was a few months shy of 16 years old. We found her in the hall unresponsive at about 12:30 AM. We rushed to the local emergency vet that is open 24/7 and the vet said she was dead. Either a stroke, or the vets thinks it might have been a stomach inversion.

Reese did go in and out of the doggy door a lot of time last night.

Reuben, on the left is 13 and has had Reese as a companion literately all his life. When he just opened his eyes, she would come over and play with him according to the breeder where we got both dogs from. They were best friends for sure.

Reese was deaf, and had a torn retina and a ulcer on her right retina, so we gave her two drops eye drops per day and she had a narrowed throat and she coughed a lot and was on medication for that as well.

We are donating the unused medicine to the dog ophthalmologist that was treating her. They will not buy the meds back, but give them to someone that can't afford the expensive drops.

She will be missed.

That's really sad Glen. All the best... They're both beautiful dogs.

Dachshunds are not common in Aus. An owner told me once you've had one that's it, you'll always have a Dachshund.

I'm actually looking for the right dog right now.

Oh man - so sorry for your loss, Glen. 16 years isn't a bad run and I know she had a great life!

We had Doxies when I was very young. Fantastic breed!

An old pic of my oldest brother and our two....both short hair, one red and one black!

Sorry to hear of your pups passing, Glen. It isn't ever easy to lose them.
