Exactly what I thought…he was having a stroke. And vet said same thing…doggie vertigo. Fortunately for Bosco (and us) it only lasted an hour or so and he was back to normal. After we retired, my wife wanted to get another dog. I didn’t want to because of what you go through when it’s time to put him to sleep…it’s like losing a family member. So we voted, I lost and we got Bosco 13 years ago. I was hoping he would outlive me but he probably won’t.

A friend of mine should be taking Maverick in a couple of weeks. We visited him and took him for a walk to a tiny local dog park. Mav is currently about 110 lbs, heading for 115-120 lbs, which is about as big as GSDs get. His head is like a bear's. Super mellow and a teddy bear, but you can tell he's very protective when he senses a threat. Just a magnificent dog, IMO.

My girl Mia is his half-sister, sharing the same mother. She grabs stuff that has my smell on it, like shirts, socks, and underwear. Pretty endearing, really.

Happy International Dog Day!

One year ago today, we lost our girl at 15 years. It was her 15th birthday when she crossed the bridge looking for someone to throw a ball. Miss her massively.

Bad scare with our Border Collie. Last evening she didn't want supper, eventually ate it. Lost it again at midnight. This morning had a temperature of 40 degrees C. She is in the Vet's care right now on IV and antibiotics for what they suspect is another battle with anaplasmosis. GD ticks.
Yes she has two types of flea and tick medication and treatments, but the disease can be passed to the host in less than a half hour. We also are using 'Tick Tubes" along our walking trail. Those are cardboard tubes stuffed with cotton which is treated with permethrin. The idea is mice take the cotton for nesting material and the chemical kills the smaller stage of tick which feed on mice.
Hoping for a call from the office with good news.

She had the same date for her birth and death and it coincides with National Dog Day.....what a coincidence......and makes it harder to forget. These herding dogs really stay in your heart......

Hope your doggo is ok, Les. We treat our remaining BC with a "tick treat" during the season. So far we have been lucky.

Got a call from the clinic this morning. Good news: she responded to the antibiotics and could come home. My wife was there inside 20 minutes. Flow is almost 9 now and we're not sure if this was the result of a new tick bite or a cyclical thing. She is still low energy, but wanted to go down to the river with me when I unrigged the sailboat. She even barked at a few waves.

My eldest daughter's dog Max. He's now 16 years old and a bit shaky at times.

She found him in the animal shelter; Alice Springs Northern Territory & we think he may be part Dingo.
The Aborigines near Alice Springs often breed domestic dogs with Dingos.

Australian Dingo.

Looks half Dingo like my Heeler. I think the wild dog in her is why she's so healthy, never smells or needs grooming and is never sick. Also why she's bat schit crazy

I bought Ellie a swimming pool for her 1st birthday. She loves it! If you know anything about Springers, you know they are water&mud dogs. I'll throw the ball for her until she's had enough and heads to the pool to play with the ball there and cool off. Then the cycle starts again.

We had a bit of a misadventure with Pete up in Michigan. We wanted to take the dogs to the water and found a county park with an off-leash dog beach. Perfect! And much closer than one of the Great Lakes where we usually go. It turned out to be a weed-filled 'beach' with a small man-made pond. The lake bottom was soft silty sand at the beach area. Then Pete decided to run down the edge of the water away from the beach and sunk in deep black muck. He barely got out and kept going thru the muck. Eventually he came back and here he is, knowing he was a very bad dog ....

A few days and 3 baths later ....
