But what about the guy in the truck vs. cyclist thread who said he had a problem that the truck driver didn't try to drive away rather than shoot the attacker.

I wonder if he has a problem that this gentleman didn't try to flee from the intruders before shooting as a last resort?

Isn't it the same thing - exhaust all options before using your firearm?

I realize this was in his home and the other was in his truck but seems to me that poster should be asking the same question here.

Now who was that???

You know, you're right. The old git should have just sat there and let the 3 thugs take what they wanted. We all know they would've just left without hurting him. Crikey, mate!

Your post probably wasn't directed towards me, but I was on that other thread too, and imo here is the difference:

1) Break into anyone's home...be prepared to die.
2) Big difference between someone escalating a "fist fight" when there are other options. Particularly if you are a pretty large, physically fit Marine, and you are REALLY not in danger of losing your life imo.
3) Each situation should be analyzed with rational logic

Kudos to the old gentleman...I would not have retreated, nor sought other options (except for his choice in weapon) in this situation either .

ps: It's always been that way in NC...I doubt there is a single DA that would press charges, and certainly no jury would convict if one (with an agenda) did.

it must have been a head shot? a body shot with a .22 wouldn't be lethal unless it hit an artery I would think. at 92 he shouldn't be expected to retreat. At that age clearly he shoots faster than he can run.

For the most part I agree with this statement.
However, I do not feel B&E deserves the death penalty.
However2, somebody breaking into a home at a time when the home owner is there, is likely prepared to deal with the situation. So physical harm is very possible and I feel the home owner was justified.
Case closed.

Not sure, but:

I respectfully disagree.. the guy died in the car,, a lung shot would have done this no problem. In general,, humans don't take lead well..

If he was anything like my dad he never wanted to see another Garand.

Story brings a tear to my eye... Good to see there are still men with a set of Cahones on the planet instead of the flower dusted metrosexuals that have taken over the feed lot...
