Did a show with this kid last night....
If Jimi had a love child he would be it. The kid just smokes the place up. This was the second show we did with him. He ended the show playing voodoo chile with his teeth. The other kid is the reincarnation of Stevie Ray and plays just as well as the other kid.
Sam and I did a show at a blues festival with both of these young guns last night. The crowd was stunned to say the least. Ages 13 and 15 ![]() Ages 61 and 60

I think part of the reason kids are so good at learning language is that they are unabashed about making changes in their speech. They try out new words. They don't really have a 'comfort zone' yet to protect. This kid seems unafraid of letting himself go, and just expressing. Later, that window closes and we are left with a finite bag of tricks.

Great stuff here. It's fun to see young kids wailing like that...

He has not been in a band before, neither of them has. Sam & I have had to "train" them a bit in team playing. They are both starting to listen to what we are doing as well as playing their own parts. Sam and I have our ways of pushing them around and we both can feel them starting to read us as well as us reading them. In a trio it's easy to take charge. I'm a strong bass player and can drag them around pretty easily. That makes them listen. After I get their attention I let them do what they like but I have let them know that sam and I are here too so pay attention. It's a work in progress. I don't think we will be playing with them for long. They need to be with guys their own age, but for now they need to play with more experienced players that " Get it" before they are out on their own. Bryan will be playing in Austin for the SRV memorial show. Wish we could back him there.

Yeah it's nice to be out there again. I have been pretty busy this summer between these boys and The Rich Harper Band. Mostly "day" shows. I left the cover band I was playing with after the stroke. It was a window of opportunity really. If I played Mustang Sally one more time I think I was gonna slit my wrists. I'm not ready for 4 hour shows and 3 A.M. anytime soon I'm afraid. It takes too much out of me.

Here is the other kid, Nik Killa, the youngest of the two. His first song of the set. Some miscommunication at the beginning but he makes up for it with some great guitar work. He needs to start singing. Sam sings this but the kid needs to sing too to complete the package.. Trouble with the kids is the squeeky pre-pube voices. First song for my explorer bass. I think it sounds good.

The Explorer sounds great. Get these kids to a teacher for a bit of theory and some Coltrane, Django and Joe Pass recordings
