He's out qualified his younger teammate all year long. He suffered some unfortunate DNFs early on but has stayed with it.
He has nothing to prove and I was hoping to see him drive for one more season. But no one can argue that he will retire as one of he best drivers of all time. We were lucky to see his talent.

Patrick, is it your impression that Michael was asked to leave?
I was thinking that he was welcome as long as he wanted to be there. Great PR impact, helpful in car development, plus he could be quite the mentor ( if willing) But now the silly season has stirred every thing up, and I don't quite know what to think about what is happening. Could it be that Mercedes was shopping for Louis, and had decided to cut loose Schumi as soon as they had closed the deal? Or did Michael tell them he was going, so they hooked up with Hamilton?
