Possibly a goodbye to my best companion :(

I am so sad right now. I'm having a hard time even putting it here in words without feeling like I want to cry.
My dog "Snap" is in her final stages of cancer. Some of you might remember "My dog has cancer" thread from almost three years ago. Well her cancer has come back with a vengence in the last couple of months. As of Wednesday night, she has been pacing around the house and panting. Obviously in a lot of pain. We have an appointment at the vet tomorrow morning. (soonest we could get) I have a feeling that tomorrow may be the day that we have to say goodbye to our beloved Snappie girl.
She had some pretty radical surgery when I originally posted the first thread about her. It bought us almost three years. We did not want to put her through another surgery at her age. Her birthday is Oct. 23rd. She will/would be 11 years old.
Oh God! This is going to rip my heart out! We have taken our girl with us almost everywhere we go.

If you are a dog person and have one, see one, or want one....give them a little pat on the head and appreciate the companionship that they give us. Unconditionally!

I'm not a dog person, but it is so obvious how much you love that dog.... I hope she is comfortable and thankful about the wonderful life she has led with you and your family. Sending strength your way...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

Giving Jack a hug now. Our hearts go out to you and your family.

That is very sad.

Remember that Snap doesn't have regrets or fear death. He feels love and feels pain. When the pain is too great, you have a duty to him.

You may, for years, wake up crying. It is okay.

It is never easy, but remember to do what is in Her best interests. That will give you a little bit of peace later on. So sorry to hear this.

Sorry to hear that Dan, those are really nice pics with your girls. They will be a good place to focus your attention as this plays out, I'm sure they will feel the loss a lot also.

Hang in there!

All the best Richard

Isn't that the way it's supposed to be?

Sorry for the impending loss of your canine buddy.

I think all pets should be like parrots and outlive us.

redstrosekNic 10-04-2012 07:50 PM

Sorry man... It is always hard.

Jim Bremner 10-04-2012 08:12 PM

Remember the good times! I've done my fair share of this. almost ready to give up on the ownership of dogs due to it. I then rember the love and respect from them.

It's hard.

Your best friend

Absolute and unconditional love that is never forgotten. Your pain as hers is shared by many here. both of you ,as your family, are in our thoughts. George, father of nine canines.

If she is hurtin that bad you gotta put her down...no matter how much it hurts, you gotta do it. She looks to you to take care of her and this is the final kindness that you can give her. It is awefu to have to give the order but letting her suffer is worse. Just be with her and hold her telling her what a good dog she is and how much you love her..May God Bless her.

As an avowed dog person - with four dogs of my own - it breaks my heart to hear this. As has been said, a dog's
life is just too short.

I will give an EXTRA hug to all of my furry kids tonight.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-04-2012 09:12 PM

Awful to hear - you're in my thoughts. All the best.

Don Plumley 10-04-2012 09:21 PM

Oh, so sorry to hear this. We are also worried about this - our Chip has osteosarcoma of the mandible - but so far the progression is very slow. I tear up thinking about it. Best to you and Snap, be strong for her...
