they both show as feels like rain but the first one is Change in the Weather...another suitable song for the day.

When there's bad weather coming to the east or gulf coasts the air force uses WPAFB as a parking lot. The air around here would normally be swarming with military AC. I saw half a dozen Chinooks come in yesterday, but other than that, not much above normal traffic.

Put the loader on the tractor and hauled the welder/generator up to the house.
Gas cans full, beer in the fridge, i'm ready.

We've had a lot of rain already. It's supposed to continue throughout this week, ending around Friday.

DanielDudley 10-28-2012 12:50 PM

I don't like the way this storm is developing.

Barometer down to 1012 and dropping.

NY65912 10-28-2012 02:31 PM

Barometer At 951 millibars.

We are evacuating now. Good luck to all!

If you evacuate from Manhattan or Brooklyn, where would you go?

My daughter evacuated with her fiancee' from their 5th floor condo to the Westin Hotel in Times Sq.

I honestly don't see the point.

G_d speed Mike. Talk to you in a couple days.

jyl 10-28-2012 03:24 PM

I, also, don't understand the point of evacuating from Manhattan or Brooklyn, unless you live below sidewalk level or have some other unusual situation.

widgeon13 10-28-2012 03:47 PM

In lower Manhattan and the Battery area I think the streets could be flooded so getting in and out could be a problem as well as power outages. At least in a hotel they might have emergency power.

NY65912 10-28-2012 03:51 PM

I'm 5' above sea level and on a peninsula. One of the bulkheads is only 200' from my door. I am making plans to get the p car out of here..

I have friends at a much higher elevation in Brooklyn, Bayridge, that's were I'm going. Plus their house is built like a concrete and brick fortress and mine is wood frame.

It's the storm surge that's the problem for me.

I'm mobile, thanks to to iPad I'll never be out of touch from the BBS.

Thanks John, keep safe.

Buckterrier 10-28-2012 04:12 PM

just got back from getting water & doggie food. The store is friggin' picked clean. Also the Mobile/Exxon station is already out of gas, dang.

Skytrooper 10-28-2012 04:20 PM

Good Luck all ! I guess we will see you on the other side. Looks like Tuesday and Wednesday are going to be the most troublesome for western NY.

Groesbeck Hurricane 10-28-2012 04:23 PM

Best to yall tonight! Hope Sandy is a wispy little thing with no bang!

lonewolf 10-28-2012 04:25 PM

8-11ft storm surge with 25ft waves on top of it pounding the area for 20-30 hours .
The seriousness of this can not be overstated.
This is history in the making.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you guys there.

TimT 10-28-2012 04:47 PM

Yes it looks like a bad storm, the media is really doing a good job building this to a frenzy.. I saw people almost come to blows at a gas station earlier, supermarket shelves are bare of certain essentials, such as

Potato Chips

Salsa

Its incredible

I live pretty close to the water, a canal about 120' from my steps, a series of fresh water lakes, the southern most about 500' from my house, the Atlantic is 4 miles, the nearest inlet to the bays is about 8 miles..

I've taken some of my cars to higher ground, one I wont be able to move :( .... my backup generator is fueled up and ready, the pumps in my basement are ready, tomorrow morning I'll pull the burner and controls for my heating system... I have food and water for a few days....

And monitor how things unfold, if it gets hairy. I'll head to my bros who lives at a higher elevation....

Just hate how the media handles these events...

Yeah, I may be kidding about Sandy, but we evacuated my wife's aunt today.

Will fill up the tub, just in case.

Hurricane Protip:

There is plenty of water in your hot water heaters.
