Air travel, in this day of 97% load factors, gets messed up in a hurry when weather starts delaying flights and breaking connections, and it needn't be local weather. I've found myself in Detroit, being told that missed connections due to weather delays are tough luck, and the next flight home with a seat is in 3 days . . . Or I can stay at the airport overnight and then fly to Seattle next morning and figure a way home from there. So, if your trip is entirely direct flights, maybe, but if you have connections and multiple legs, I'd be wary.

Just drove down to VIR for a Sunday Monday DE. Hoping the rain stays away.

The drive home Monday night through WV does not look fun.

+1 on the purple....

Nice in NYC today. They're saying it will probably start raining tomorrow with the wind picking up early Monday morning. I'm off to PA now and then to VA for Monday which should hopefully put me out of most of the brunt of this thing and get behind it. If it looks like VA is going to be dicey I'll change my plans and keep driving south to Myrtle Beach and sit it out there. Stay dry and safe all!

Yep, the leaves are amazing this year, best since we've moved here.

Buckterrier 10-28-2012 05:25 AM

Already 9' waves just east of Ct. This may be a doozy.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-28-2012 06:10 AM

Grey skies in eastern PA. No wind yet (it was blowing a little last night but probably incidental / unrelated). No rain yet either. Not going to stay here past tonight. This is still mostly media sensationalism but on the other hand nobody wants to underestimate it. The biggest potential hazards are down trees or branches making roads impassable, loss of electrical power and flooding / surge near the water. There will be minimal damage from wind other than a few branches and trees. Stay safe and dry all!

I like the aubergine house too.

(I can't believe I was the first to call it that. I'm on a Porsche forum right?)

It was just painted a year ago and at the cost I'm hoping it holds up well. Aubergine or not.

We have a lot of those big hemlocks around the house and they have a very shallow root system, a lot of rain just makes for a bad recipe.

951Millibars. wow , that's low and going lower.

This thing is no joke guys, Hope everyone is prepped.

Buckterrier 10-28-2012 08:36 AM

You mean 951 Wolf? They just showed that on the weather channel. I'm at about 1015 if my barometer is correct.

Buckterrier 10-28-2012 08:52 AM

Also the wind was coming out of the north this morning. It has started to turn, coming from the northeast now. This is only the beginning.
Looks like Long Island Sound will be acting as a funnel. The high tide, full moon, with the easterly winds is a bad combination.

lonewolf 10-28-2012 08:53 AM

Yes 951
super storms have been in the 960 range.
this could hit 940 something making it history making and very very bad.

widgeon13 10-28-2012 08:58 AM

Watching the weather channel, storm surge of 2.7 ft at Garden City has already exceeded what they had during Irene and the storm is still 450 + miles offshore. This ain't going to be pretty.

NYC subway closing tonight at 7 PM, school canceled.

lonewolf 10-28-2012 09:12 AM

Storm surge for New york /New jersey now expected to hit 8FT.-11FT
This is on top of the waves of 12-18FT
35FT waves already recorded off the coast of NC

All my racing gas cans, kerosene can, and propane cylinders are filled. Generator is ready. Lets see what this baby brings.

This is "Change in the weather" not "feels like rain."
