yes but he was pissed because they made him give up his Beretta M418. There were a few Bond pistols. The one that had a silencer on it although it was supposed to be a PPK was really a FN 1910 as it was the only one in the prop dept that had a can on it. There is no mention of him ever using a P5.

"developed.......as a replacement of the .....PP"

I'd call it a replacement of the P38. Even uses the same magazine. Have one from SOG I bought years ago, issue date is '65 or so.

I defer to your better research I missed the Octopussy list for some reason. My bad...

Super_Dave_D 03-08-2015 07:36 AM

You don't have a P5 from 1965........but your correct, the p5 was for replacement of the P1.

In addition, P38/P1 mags will not work on the P5, they have to be modified to work properly.

You are correct, my P1 is dated 9/62, the P5 11/83.
The P5 mags will fit the P1, but P1's would need a notch cut in the back to work in the P5.

I'll be taken this one pig hunting in June. That vineyard destroying boar's gonna say "OUCH!...Well, this is it for me, but at least it was a classy 130 year old 38-55 with a 3x barrel that did it :D

Jeff and Henry, I need a little help. What are these sights?, and would they be original to a Win hi-wall manufactured in 1887?

I can't find them in a google search. Close, but no perfect matches.

Those are from Bullard Arms of Springfield Mass, circa 1887-1888. Ref Gerald O. Kelver's Reloading Tools, Sights, and Telescopes for Single Shot Rifles, Robinson Press, Ft. Collins, CO 1982 page 63.

So, yes, they would be period correct for your Highwall. Cool rifle, by the way.

Craig T 03-11-2015 07:17 PM

Jeff…You rock!!! Thank you!

I knew you'd have the book. I've been Google searching all day. I've seen the exact sights on Google images, but nothing in the websites that names them.

Jeff Higgins 03-11-2015 07:52 PM

My pleasure; glad I could help.

Colt 357

The Colt 357 model was introduced in the mid 1950s and lasted for only 4-5 years. It was in direct competition with the Trooper and Python so Colt dropped it from the lineup. This is one that I bought several years ago, complete with original box!

http://www.realguns.com/images/460rwlndkimasbld.jpg
A 460 Rowland......something about an 80gr bullet at 3000+fps out of a hand spoon is rather attractive...

porsche4life 03-12-2015 10:12 PM

One must ask... Why? You can't carry it legally in most places.

They made 15000 Colt 357 Magnums. The Python and Trooper outsold the 357 and that was why it was discontinued. I have had a couple of those over the years.

Tabs is correct. What he didn't say was that the reason the others outsold the "357" is because of the handwork that went into each "357". The "357" actually fit in the lineup between the Trooper and the Python. It (the 357) had the fit and finish of the Python but one could get the same functionality from the Trooper at much less cost. Somewhere down the road, the limited production of the "357" will increase it's collectability and thus price!

I don't know of anywhere around me that would prohibit the carry of a 460 Rowland over any other pistol.

I took out the old standbys yesterday to poke some holes in paper and it was like I never put them down.....sometimes the old familiar things just feel right.

I know in OK, Your CCW only allows you to carry up .45 caliber weapons.

460 Rowland uses the same projectile as .45acp

I was cleaning up the safe and remembered this sweetheart.
Custom built by JJ Luke in 1966 for black powder competition. As far as I know, the only one in existence.
Inhale...hold...squeeze, hold, hold, hold.... relax, breath.

You mean this?....it was built to be as accurate as possible and is was just that....

That front end of the muzzle should come off when you fire the pistol. It's purpose is to start the bullet down the muzzle without wearing out the crown of the muzzle, which would lessen accuracy over time.

Jeff Higgins 03-23-2015 03:43 PM

Looks more like a decorative end that is a part of the barrel. False muzzles are usually significantly oversize, to allow for the alignment pins. And they usually are not rifled.

Although it is removable, it is designed to be fired in place. IMO. The barrel is rifled but the muzzle is not rifled it is slotted and tapered.
The inside appears to be a funnel shape from small to large in the direction a flight.
Large enough where the bullet would not contact the muzzle during flight.

John Rogers 03-23-2015 05:09 PM

Both of my slug gun muzzle loaders are made that way. There is a slight amount of "funnel" shape right at the end and then for the next 8 to 12 inches there is some choke to the barrel and finally getting to the real bore at the patent breech. They are made to use Chase wrap paper patched bullets so there are no false muzzles involved.

Henry I love the supermatic!

I am looking for a 1911.

Is there a good place to look for used ones?

I will share a pic when I get one.

Come to one of the Carol Watson Auctions in Irvine with us. They always have a couple. Free scotch and free lunch. It's a blast.

Looks pretty classy!

Last time I had a cocktail with some money burning a hole in my pocket I ended up with a 996.

This could be really fun.

The same thing will happen at Carol Watson, only instead of a 996, you could end up with a schuetzen rifle.

There will be at least three or four of us from the Porsche Owners Club and Aase Motors clan. At first they complained about us drinking all their scotch and eating all the peaches, but then they added up our auction totals. :D

Any one own an 1911 with an officers frame? I'm thinking of a commander slide/officers frame as a ccw piece. One question that I have is can a goverment magazine work in an officers frame? I know that the officers frame uses it's own mag when you want a flush fit and that's what it will be carried with but if I want to use any of my other mags can I ?

Bonus of 6 interweb points for pics!
