Big Leg Emma | Dario Pegoretti

Your ULTIMATE bike can have a STEEL frame.

Add on some Campy Supe Record, A Deda 35mm bar and a decent saddle. Time Pedals and a set of wheels!

I really want to have one tailor made for me but not happening this year.

Ooo, nice RTP in the barn there

Jim.

May I ask with so many American builders out there, why Peggretti? I would have like one from him also instead of ours (without his typ paint job). My only reason is I will always think the Italians build a better bike. I am sure I am wrong, but I am an Italian bike snob. Wanted a custom one from Masi from under the Vigroelli Velodrome when I was there 12 years ago.

There's something to the ride. Of course the F'you I'm on a rolling piece of Italian art rocks

I would really like to ride a Vanillia or a nice seven as well.

I only have a few minutes on the big leg but really do like it

Dave Lieberman over at Ritte is doing some pretty cool stuff! Every bike he builds is never in my size:mad:

I kinda took it as "the ultimate thread" on bikes instead of a thread about "ulimate bikes".

I know the used to work as a ref, ruling please? ;)

Might as well jump in.

^^^ How long are those crank arms?

vash 12-24-2012 08:52 AM

This is what I'm looking for now. Ilkeston-biult, SB-numbered, Raleigh Team Pro in Reynolds 753, ideally around 56 cm to 58 cm marked ( center-to-center measurement is about 2-3 cm less than marked).

http://cdn.velospace.org/files/1986RaleighTeamPro.jpg

As mentioned above, I've found a frameset locally that would need repainting, but it is kinda small and he wants $400. Even if I get him down to $300, after paint and decals it will be a $700 frame with non-original paint which hurts value. More than it is worth, except maybe in the Japanese market.

Oh well, will keep looking. Anyone run across one, lemme know?

I dont know exactly what is going on, but Sasha at Vanilla seems to have directed his efforts at producing bikes under the SV brand now?

If you don't like the paint on a Pegoretti, then I cant imagine why you'd buy one... thats part of the charm. I think he's f'ing brilliant. Paint aside... its a bike frame/design built under the eye of someone with tons/decades of experience that just 'gets it'.

They are your typ. Italian road bike with a breath of fresh air, IMO. Just not your 1970's lugged frames. Don't get wrong, I am all about ride quality with latest and the greatest technological innovations. Personally, I am just not into the the wild paint scheme. As far as paint is concern, I could care less if its white, red or black. I actually like it when high end frames just (usually the builder only built one type) come in one color, like Gios blue, or Bianchi's Celeste. My last Torelli was pulled off the shelf at my local bike shop because it was my size. I paid for it and took it home. it just happened to be white. Any other would have been fine.

Oh yeah, the crank arms are 175mm, the gearing is 25-9.

Met up with Dave a few days ago Up in Sunland. I am think about having something build and have them put my company name on the down tube just for laughs. Nice guy. he tells me he works for Ritte. I don'tthink he actually do any of the production work.

You know anyone that will do any dropout replacement on a Colnago Master light from the late 90s?

With the variety of riders here, there is bound to be many "Ulimate Bikes"
And while some may not be the "ulimate bike" to others.

For some it may be a Hop Along Cassidy bike http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356398843.jpg

or a schwinn Krake they had or wanted as a kid...
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356400370.jpg
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356400391.jpg
Or it could be a high tech Carbon fiber road bike, that would set you back 15 Large PLUS, that you want now, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356399508.jpg
Then there are the Nut Cases like me, who love old bikes, the bikes we w had or wanted as a kid,
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356400451.jpg

road bikes, MTBs, Recumbents, and cool new stuff.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1356400295.jpg
