A very young Laurent Fignon:

^ ha, cool... the Turbo era. Everything was called turbo! And the young Fignon - the little Professor.

saddles: Recently acquired pair Brooks Imperial B17 for the Santana tandem. Sure wish this bike was ridden more. Will see how the Spring shapes up and decide whether to keep.

Its below zero temps and what a perfect time to take a drive for an old bike ;)

Another winter project-
(circa 1958 and no its not French! Hint, custom made in London. Dig the livery. Its going to be built period race and preservation in mind. Not sure if I should leave the badly marred and chipped finish as is or careful paint touch-up.)

What do you guys think about this? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424311004.jpg

Proflex was an early runner and more affordable to the masses FS. Personally, I never liked the elastometer damping (if one could call it that). Although for collectability, some of this ATB stuff is warming up. Have no clue for this one but early model, high-end hardtails are bringing good money once again.

Racerbvd 02-18-2015 06:42 PM

I might be able to pick it up for $100

jyl 02-18-2015 06:58 PM

Sweet. The stays and fork crown look English, don't they, and I think it was the English who had a thing for oil ports. Funny that it was done as a faux Peugeot. I'd keep it that way. Call it the spy bike.

jyl- Thanks, thought you'd appreciate it. Its the real deal with a very interesting provenance on top of a premier maker. The average eye probably wouldn't give it a second look, unless perhaps was into the vintage. Sort of hard to accept the poor condition finish and small dink in the TT. The shift group was top tier of the day from Huret. The crank isn't even listed on V-base and thus far I'm hoping to cross ref for chainwheels. Really want to use it. A Stronglight 45 Competition 5 pin but look a little closer.... its cottered!

Nervex lugged, Reynolds 531 throughout with English decal. Magistroni headset, Bayliss-Wiley bb, GB bar /stem... I have most of the ingredients to build but nothing for wheels. Not sure what it had either but for start thinking Maxi-car hubs, Mavic tubular rims.

intakexhaust 02-18-2015 10:52 PM

a few more-
Nothing shining but a rare warrior. R531 throughout+ fork and stays. Note vent holes on seat stays, arched brake bridge.

$100 ain't a bad deal, but that elastomeric suspension really isn't much. 3/4-1 inch tops? Probably more like 1/2-3/4. For an around town or light off road thing, it would be pretty cool, because the pivot point is in a really good location, and the limited travel actually helps unwanted suspension motion (because it doesn't really move at all :) ). Some of the full suspension bikes from this era are stupidly unrideable. This one you could use.
What you really want to look out for in these frames are stress cracks in the paint in this area. Especially on the underside of the swingarm and the pivot gusset on the frame. That's where they brake.

I guess the real story is, screw with a politician and the law gets passed.

Bike-passing laws: Better give 'em 3 feet

Have to laugh how or who values the swag pkg. at the 2015 Oscars. $168k worth? It only caught my attention when they mentioned a $1200 bike from Martone, a POS made in China. LOL Really, $1200! Complete with two speed SRAM auto shift. I guess its all about the fashion. The swag package includes some personal vibrator, just to warm you up for the rest of this junk. No joke.
