kraap!
too many run-ins between mtn bikers and foot-trail users. i trail run this area too, so i am sensitive to the other joggers and i STOP my bike and let them by. i grew up in an area that practiced, "feet before seats". horses and people on foot get the right away..i dont care if i am going downhill or grinding uphill. now? rangers have moved big boulders in and put fences across key areas. next..tickets will be issued. sucks..i just bought a new bike!!! i LOVE riding out from my house and hitting the trails. i still will, but i will stay on the bike legal firetrails. they suck, but climbing is climbing. a few months ago, i almost got my butt kicked when i team of cyclist almost ran me down. my calling them names when i dove into the weeds didnt help.. i think a mom with a small child almost got hit, and that was the final straw. a fence!!! |

My dad traded a 70 Chevelle ss 454 for one of those piles back in the day.
I found a set of skis in the trash the other day and winter is coming http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442624819.jpg |
bought a Trek Fx 7.7 this spring. I like it. Presuming no damage, what is the life expectancy of CF bikes these days?

I was told. Very long. Sent via Jedi mind trick. |
Finally got a bike that might be worthy of posting. It is a 2006 Gary Fisher Paragon. I only rode it for a few blocks on a test ride and I was amazed how much different the 29" wheels were. I felt really high and top heavy. I hope I get used to it quickly. Now I need to figure out what else I need. I know I need shoes.

Fix the quick release lever positions first ;). Did you get the fork pump? There's a fitting on the top and bottom of the left leg that should be aired up per the rider weight sticker on the fork.

That's good. I'm "full-figured" and 50 so a big failure while riding could well result in big problems that could make for long recovery. Thanks!

One advice on carbon is that don't spend crazy money on a cheap or super light expensive frame. The lighter, the more it suffers from rigidity so its a weaker frame compare to a slightly heavier one. I ride a Time frame, RXRS Ulteam. Its a heck of a frame, stiff where it counts and its very comfortable and alive. 50s coming around the corner for me too, breaking something is no longer fun. I had a broken collar bone and three ribs early this year. It put me out of commission for a few weeks. Carbon frames should be fine and it will last a long time, that's if you don't crash it. Mine has survive some good one and they do fine without any issues. |
I have a carbon frame, but carbon handle bars scare me; I had a set once and it started to get squeezed at the clamp- just takes a crack or large abrasion to fail, just not worth the risk on a control surface.
