Mother nature still owes me. That tailwind was less than an hour.

Nothing compared to the 50km/hr headwind she threw at me for 5 hours of my 10.5 hour ride on the century :(

My bianchi is sitting in the basement on wheels ready for parts to be thrown at it, BUT...my twin plug engine for my RSR was delivered this week so Bianchi Shmianchi, I'm heading to the garage!:)

At least she didn't pull a schleck on me and pick me up and body slam me to the ground.

Not trying to be a dick, but your statement: "How the hell did I maintain this speed of around 70km/hr all alone?" doesn't seem to be what you did...

I just finished a 150-mile two day ride at a 14.6 mph moving average (about 6k worth of climbing) - not anywhere near your 45 mph highs, but well above your average speed?

Ha, is that a 2.8L motor? I am geting my 72 stripped and painted but motor (2.7L) and tranny (short gears) is all done.

If you look at the graph I did maintain that speed for short intervals. Even hitting that speed in the first place is sort of unbelievable, let alone maintaining it long enough to look at drivers next to me on the highway and snicker at the look on their face as they drove alone guide me.

I guess I just don't understand your point though.

There were unusual weather conditions, I kept pace with highway traffic numerous times, and I had a blast doing it. I doubt that I could do it again unless the stars and the moon align just right, but it was fun while it lasted.

According to a friend of mine who is into hot air balloons, he says there dis absolutely no wind when you are in a balloon (because you are travelling with the wind) and the same applies to riding a bicycle with a tail wind. You know if if there is zero breeze in your face.

I can appreciate that you find it hard to believe that I even hit this speed, but I can;t appreciate why you are having such hard time interpreting my post.

If you need some science, I found this and ran some conservative numbers for a weak little guy like me with twiggy legs.

Be careful passing traffic on the inside!
When I was way younger and way fitter, I was doing a training ride north of Radium BC.
Coming back with the wind on a slight downhill I caught and passed a car on the inside. Speed limit was 80 Kph.
The woman was so surprised to see something on her right side, she looked over and damn near forced me off the road at speed.
Never doing that again! (Not only because I can't but because I am afraid to!)

I'm driving to work and climbing to this lake daily afterwards. Couple of sections really take my heart rate to red line. I love riding dirt much better. Doesn't suck that Sonoma girls hike in bikinis.

sweet. i just rubbed my bike down with a torn boxer short and some soapy water. looking for cracks.

had to fuss with the rear derailleur, so i didnt get to ride today. i never remember which way to turn :) cleaned my chain..and cant find my bottle of triflow. i'm hoping its in my wifes car..somewhere.

little stress cracks are hard to see. Not sure how I'll keep track of any on the new black frame. Here's a picture of the old frame. Same cracks on both sides:

Well, she collected big time this weekend.

After all the tornados blew through, we had a huge windy day, and I went for a ride not realizing until I got out of the shelter of my road.

Two hours in the granny gear!
Ok, I exaggerate, I might have shifted up two cogs at one point but I didn't stay there long before I was back in the granny gear and out of the saddle trying with all my might to go fast enough not to tip over.

Granny gear for 2 hours!
I didn't make it very far and me and my spindly legs were beat by the time I took a shortcut home.

Suddenly I smelled strawberries and thought I was having a stroke!
(It turns out the spring crop is just blooming and kids were out picking with their moms and dads a km or so away). Phew!

As for mother nature?
I'm officially throwing away any form of speed measuring device for fear of offending her again...:(

I don;t know how you guy do it living out in the open riding in that kind wind daily? Discipline zapping wind.:mad: it really messes with your mind. We had some pretty strong wind today. I just walked into the house from a 30 mile ride. All head wind (so it seemed). I was dead and had no more in my head to do another lap with little in the tank.

Wait a second, there's someone else on this planet that still rides a 26" mtb like me? Long live the 26er!:D
