I really wish I hadn't seen this :D 70-tooth chainring  Technically, the gated community I live in is a 'Closed Course' ...

I had to take some ibuprofen for my knees after just LOOKING at that bike.

CurtEgerer 11-01-2023 10:14 AM

^^^^ I know! The funny thing is the video shows 3 guys spinning this thing up pretty good and in an urban setting! So much for 'track and closed course' only.

EDIT: I'm now thinking the drive ratio on these belt bikes is completely different from a chain bike and 70T is not what we are thinking. Sure has the cool look factor though.

I picked up the used Brilliant L Train. The seller is real close to my house and the bike was in excellent condition, almost new. He bought it back in July and didn't use it too often.

This is a completely different cycling experience. It is extremely quiet and it shifts so smoothly.

It also came with a bell on the handle bar that you can hide an Air Tag inside. I don't know if that will help if it is stolen. But, it could come in handy if I forget where I locked it up. :)

herr_oberst 11-01-2023 11:29 AM

Paul, that was fast! Better send pictures so we can nit-pick it to death. It's what we do!

Paul_Heery 11-01-2023 01:00 PM

As requested, here are some pics of the new bike. I had not adjusted the seat height yet in the pictures, but you can imagine it being about 3 inches higher.

Overall the bike is in great shape like new. The seller also gave me the toolkit that it came with as well as the touchup paint in case I should ever need it. It doesn't.

So pick it over. I welcome the comments.

I just got back from my first real outing with it after I picked it up. I didn't go out earlier this morning because it was snowing here.

The Priority is much more comfortable than my other bike. The older one needed a new saddle, so that wouldn't be a fair comparison. The gearing on the Priority is much different than the Specialized, but I knew that going in. It will take me a while to get used to it. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase.

A couple hundred pages of 4-color pictures and descriptions of all the bike parts and accessories, not to mention charts of frame sizes and descriptions in the back. This was produced during the very onset of desktop-publishing and it must've taken months and months to do - and was probably mostly obsolete by the time it hit the printers because of the pace of component development at the time! Talk about a labor of love.

^^^ Wow. Nice! And a great deal to boot. You've got me thinking belt-drive now. I'm putting together a single-speed 'gravel bike' and now I'm thinking belt drive might be the way to go. But not easy with a conventional frame. I see that Priority has a split frame - the 2 bolts at the bottom of the driveside seat stay can be removed and the frame pulled apart slightly to install the 1-piece belt.

CurtEgerer 11-01-2023 01:19 PM

That Priority Apollo is an awesome gravel bike too. No dust/dirt problems with the internal gearing and belt drive. A little more than I want to spend on a bike that will likely see limited use.

I love that color, love the steel frame, and like curt said, rim brakes are the practical option in this case.

And what a great deal! Score! No nits to pick here!

That Cannondale is a CAAD 4? I raced a CADD 3. Tough little bike and wicked fast around the corners. It was the same red without the Chippoweenie decals. I jsut saw those red look pedals the other day in my junk box. It only has a few scratches on them along with new cleats. Good times down memory lane.

Gary Fisher 29" picked it up for $250

Imagine buying a great used 29'er for the price of a few tanks of gas, or a couple of months worth of car insurance. Score.

Cool bike! (Filmed in classic Ultimate Bike Thread blurred Byronvision! :) )

..like some of my own pics!

In other gratuitous news, Light and motion has a deal on the the 2500 enduro light. $100 bucks off. My older L&M batteries were starting to eff up, so I got one.

Holy cow Scott, that sounds like fantastic progress. It's going to be liberating to get out and travel by bike :) Good deal on the 29er. I'm currently building a 29er into a 'gravel bike'.

That's harsh! (I'll admit to the saddlebag thing; I tend to pack my fears.)

CurtEgerer 11-04-2023 08:57 AM

^^^ that's good stuff :D I think I'm OK: just tore off and threw away the worn out Gatorskins off that Specialized Tarmac I bought. Ditched even the small saddle bag. Haven't used a helmet mirror in years. And I keep a fresh rotating selection of jerseys (never bibs) in the closet! :D

Just got back from a 90-minute shakedown run on my new gravel bike. Fun! Lots to learn. Single-speed 32x18 ... what the ..... ?????? (I normally ride a 53x16-18 on the road bikes). No way this is going to work. Well, because of the ginormous 29er tire circumference, that gearing is not bad on gently rolling gravel. Modifications already underway - mainly drop bars for now. DO NOT LIKE the straight bars and short-short stem. Steering too quick and twitchy, hand position uncomfortable, yadayada.
