^^^ Nice!
This 1947 Hobbs Barbican race bike is striking to me in its similarity to modern conventional-frame bikes (and even the latest plastic-fantastics for that matter). So little has changed. Didn't know Reynolds 531 dated back that far. Probably used in the war for aircraft construction - just guessing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698010801.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698010826.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698010826.jpg |

Does anyone remember the big catalog after Pedal Pushers and Bike Pro merged? I still have a copy from 1994. A couple hundred pages of 4-color pictures and descriptions of all the bike parts and accessories, not to mention charts of frame sizes and descriptions in the back. This was produced during the very onset of desktop-publishing and it must've taken months and months to do - and was probably mostly obsolete by the time it hit the printers because of the pace of component development at the time! Talk about a labor of love.

I had two copies, maybe still in my basement.

^^^ I don't recall that catalog at all but it looks like an excellent reference! Maybe someone should scan and upload it :D

>>> The original wheels were tied and soldered .... <<<
kinda forgot about that. I did that on a few of my bikes in the 70s/80s. |

I had mentioned here a while back my first of 3 wishes would be able to fight like legend Bruce Lee.
Watching this video (and so many others by Park) - I'm thinking wish #2 would be to have a complete set of every tool that Park makes..... <iframe width="853" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sEv8irsdQI8" title="How to Remove and Install Bottom Brackets - Cup & Cone" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

^^^ Wow! That blows mine out of the water. Mine is very rudimentary. Probably bought it 35 years ago.
This is SOOOO cool. A 1974 Raleigh Super Course. This was a dream bike for me back in the early 70s and just discovering the world of foreign bikes. It looks to be all original. 531 main tubes. He's asking $325. The problem? What do you do with it? It would pretty much be a wallhanger/conversation piece. I can't imagine the handling/ride would be anything near acceptable compared to the topline bikes I've been riding forever. :( Maybe I'm wrong. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698349420.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698349456.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698349456.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698349490.jpg |
Speaking of Raleighs...
In about 74 my older brother had a beautiful jet-fokking-black and gold Professional. I couldn't afford that, but I did afford a platinum-colored Record. I foolishly left it unlocked, and it got stolen, but I replaced it with my first really good bike, a Falcon with 531 and tubs. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698353245.jpg |

What a beautiful bike, though....... https://images.craigslist.org/00c0c_...2_1200x900.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00x0x_...2_1200x900.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00j0j_...2_1200x900.jpg https://images.craigslist.org/00303_...2_1200x900.jpg Very nice original Raleigh International with original Campagnolo Nuovo Record components and original Brooks saddle. All bearings have been cleaned and repacked. It has new tubular tires, Jagwire cables, brake pads, handlebar wraps and hoods. The frame and fork are made of Reynolds 531 steel. The frame measures 23.5 inches. https://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/bik/d/tampa-1974-raleigh-international/7676649079.html Only $875! :) |
Good friend of mine from NSB was in college same time as me and we roomed together for my 3rd year in 1974. He had a Raleigh Pro and got me motivated to go on rides. We went on an over-night camping trip once to St Augustine up US1. A cold front was coming through and we got soaked for half the ride plus had a nasty head wind. The next day though we had a nice tail wind...:)

^^^^ That 1976 price list is interesting. So the International was just a little less than a Schwinn Paramount. I bought a 1975 Paramount brand new. A P13 road racer , all Campy with Clement Silk tubulars (Those were crazy money - $38/each as I recall). Somehow figured out how to put a rack on it and a buddy of mine and I tent-camped about 600 miles in northern Mich (yeah, touring with a P13 road racer!). Lost count of the punctures in those damn tires. I became exceedingly proficient at repairing silk tubulars on the shoulder of the road.
I'm in the process of restoring a 60/70s track bike and it came with a beat up leather saddle. Could barely make out the logo as an Ideale. Further researched it and found it is a No. 80 Record. And found that Ideale saddles are still being handmade in France in very limited quantities. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1698365056.jpg |
