In hindsight, an ultra-light carbon saddle with carbon rails on a rigid mountain bike may not have been the best component choice I've ever made :D Jumped a log this morning but didn't have quite enough speed. The rear tire hit, forcing me back onto the saddle and .... SNAP!

 That's a catastrophic failure.. probably not a good idea to put that saddle on a mt. bike.
I put a 25 mile shake down ride on the Lectric One. I have to say it's a "solid" ebike. Solid as in sturdy, nice on paved road, but after an hour in the saddle, I kinda wish there's a suspension fork. I unlocked the top speed of 28 mph, that's plenty fast for my usage. I may play around with the settings to adjust the power output for different speeds https://i.imgur.com/V2haKqN.jpg I am very happy with the adjustable stem, I could change the handlebar reach & height without getting off the bike. I rode two laps around the National Park near me, which has plenty of elevation change between Mt. Joy & Mt. Misery, between 8% and 18% gradient. The adjustable stem allowed me to lean forward for the uphills. I have no problem going slow up the hills with lowest gear & higher cadence with PAS1. https://i.imgur.com/3Fegn5R.jpg Pinion gearbox acts up when I miss a shift and try to shift under heavy load uphill. Most of my 25 mile ride was in PAS1. After 25 miles, the battery was only down one bar from full charge. https://i.imgur.com/5mI2iH0.jpg I like how quiet the belt drive is. Would I have a regular bike with a Pinion gearbox? maybe not, but the combo of Pinion & belt drive make the bike very flexible in different types of cycling, requiring little to no maintenance. I can see myself getting a gravel bike with Pinion & belt drive. |

Not an exciting picture, but I finally wore my Cannondale hardtail completely out, so went over to the dark side and went full suspension. Here's my Marin Rift Zone 2 as I was leaving the bike shop:

Luckily, Knoxville, TN is turning into a mountain biking wonderland. I have really nice trails literally 5 minutes from my house. |
When I was this age, 1989, I just wanted a new p-car.
Now I'm my age I just want to do this...(with advil). Or maybe not. As good as any other recent summer olympic event :) https://youtu.be/NLp260pctl4?si=cPDxm8ApZLcNxh-z&t=146 |
Found these long lost pics of a race I was in circa 1987. USCF Criterium in Grand Haven, MI. I remember a large field of over 100 racers and a short downtown circuit. They were dropping the last 10 riders across the line every lap for the first few laps to thin the field.

Very cool Curt ...
|
See Curt, I always knew you were cool. I love that Bracale helmet. You do know all the cool road racers only wore them due to USCF race regulations. Hair net were starting to lose it appeal so the next cool thing was Bracale. I also rode the track by about 88-89 so a hard shell helmet was mandatory but for miles and miles of training on the road, we had no helmets. None of the older guy wore them. I know, dumb.
I haven't seen my old pics for years. I gotta to find them now. |
Thanks Chuck
Yeah, that helmet was super cool. Probably less protection than a hairnet, but we were all indestructible at that age anyway :D |
More pics from the same race ....
