Anybody got a Jones bike? I've been doing a semi-deep dive into these and the more I learn, the more I want one of these.

My new Dinglespeed drivetrain on the rigid MTB :) 2 cogs, one for trail, one for road. Yes, I have to loosen the wheel to change cogs but I'm either on the trail or on the road, rarely both in the same ride.

So I didn't want to spend $120+ on the Jones H-bars just to see if I like the concept and bought some $40 Satori bars with similar rise and sweep (but lacking the H part in front). Instant like. The upright riding position and more natural wrist position is so much more comfortable. Have not had them on the trail, but I suspect they will be very good. It's easy to fall into the Jeff Jones Cult, but these really do perform exactly why and how he describes them. Next step, a full-on Jones bike??? Maybe

Another great Paris-Roubaix last weekend. The 3-peat for Mathieu Van der Poel!! Replay is on Peacock and if you don't have 6-hours, just FF to the last 100K or so.
I've now got a couple of trail rides in with the swept-back handlebars and they make a significant difference in balance. Because of the more upright riding position, you are more centered over the axle. I found negotiating skinny bridges and other narrow features much more natural. We'll see how it goes long-term but not seeing any negatives with these bars at all. Found some proper 175mm grips for them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1744805288.jpg |
I am intrigued by this bike I saw at UHaul.
Kinda cool flip flop rear hub, so “Free wheel” or “Fixed gear “. Not familiar with the brand either.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1745553148.jpg Seeing the flip flop hub took me back to my early BMX days , back when we’d hit between 3 and 9 races each weekend when chasing points. Being that tracks varied in length, elevation and technical, faster, slightly elevated, run a 44/15, in the morning, then the track you race in the afternoon, is more technical, so flip the rear wheel and you have a 44/16, quicker acceleration, out of the turns, and going up short shoots to a jump. |

Pretty incredible; this guy up in Colorado has built reproductions of 11 of Eddy Merckx' bikes, and he's working on number 12. Beautifully detailed, a real labor of love. NOS parts on most of them.
Edit, he literally built them from raw tubesets, Reynolds, Columbus, with NOS lugs filed and machined to match the original bike, whether it's Colnago, DeRosa, Peugeot (He built a PX10!!). Painted them in his own booth. Incredible stuff. At the end he shows his frame table; it's a huge machinists' granite with custom fixtures. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MK0b4_sxxhQ?si=qAH1RwysHhlrRNnu" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

First ride on steel in nearly a year. Took the LeMond out of hibernation this morning. What a great bike. And the Ultegra groupset is just flawless. The old-school narrow tires took a bit of getting used to though  Also note the genuine race-used 90s-era TdF Coca-Cola bidon (I am unable to prove that it is not the bottle used by Jan Ullrich on the Champs-Elysees :D ).

I'm doing some upgrades and maintenance on a neighbor's bike. It's a $400 Amazon special. It does have Shimano drivetrain and decent Weinmann rims but the rest is trash. Steel handlebars that have completely corroded in 3 years. The bike is kept in the garage. He's been in the rain a few times with it but ....
