Yes, sewups are really in vogue for the cyclocross crowd.

Personally, I think they're the biggest PITA in the world for us normal humans. Good latex tubes and high end tires, e.g. Michelin PRO, etc., will get alot of the same feel without all the sewup drama.

Never really went out of vogue for cross. Plenty of them around in road/crit/tri races. Some folks swear by them as the go to tire for training too. They're not really a big deal to maintain/install for a diy if you like dealing with that sort of thing.

Interesting seeing the Belltown pictures. I build frames as a hobby, fun stuff...

Seeing more tubeless around here than sewups for 'cross. Probably because we've got so many cross-over mountain bikers. Tubeless has been around for years on that side, and is well accepted. Maybe there is more sewup than tubeless where the majority of the group are road bikers.

For me, I would really like to give tubeless a try, especially a system like Stan's No Tubes. I fixed 17 flats on one lap during a race in Arizona a couple of years ago...

Dang cactus!

and Jim - those look like Krog lights - is that your company?

One the little lights is a Frog, the other is a cheap-charlie knockoff someone gave me, the big light strapped on the headtube is from Light and Motion - very bright! The bell is a bit of courtesy for the commute and it came from Japan, a company called Crane.

I didn't know you dealt with such stuff!

I understand that the new sew-ups are not glued to the rim anymore? Someone told me that they are now using some sort of double sided tape and that they do not have the "rolling off in the corner" issue now?

The hours I spent fixing and sewing up old tires...

jyl 12-12-2012 10:32 PM

There is Tufo tape. I've not used it. I glue the tubs on.

Joe Bob 12-15-2012 03:28 PM

So I just found out that I'm trendy.....the young rich locals are now buying up high end vintage rides and polishing out the Eyetalian gruppos only. Mixing old with new.

Ride clothes are all black, helmets and shoes are painted in SEM Trim Black....stealthy or no logos or trademarks.....engraved parts are OK......

Giro is re-issuing the Pneumo helmet in flat black, with stealth logos....the newer Aeon is pretty pricey, BTW.

Keeerist, kill me now.

Edit:....Goober sillycone flasher LEDs are OK...gotta be safe, plus when blasted on X or L...the colors are cool....

Paint might damage the helmets ability to protect your brain. It's poo'ed upon by ALL helmet manufactures.

Joe Bob 12-15-2012 04:09 PM

Looked into that claim in the past when I was doing helmet graphics.....the paint covers their warning labels and limitations. Screw 'em.....but good point. A speed bump though, like a dead lawyer in the middle of the road w/o skidmarks.....;)
