It's the cycling equivalent to the Spademan (toeless) ski binding from the 70s. I tried those once and couldn't quit looking down at the front of my ski boot!:eek:

Yep, same with me, a mental thing, when I would be on the gate, looking down at the single strut, it would screw with my mind. The Kastan concept came to Lynn while watching air planes land at the airport, or so one friend who rode for him told me.

I gather the Gruber is noisy in operation, not stealthy enough that you could get away with using it in competition.

And think of all the photos taken of Fabian and his bike during those races, by fans and pros, still and video. Even a very discreet button would be discovered.

I'd still like one though . . .

Oh yeah, but companies should stay with what they know and market the hell out of their products. Motorcross? Seriously, what a waste of money for them. Are there any more of those running around?

Came across a bike junkyard today. Pretty sorry affair for the owner. Claims he has 3000 bikes. Parts all over the place. Bikes have been sitting outside year round, many in storage sheds and 1/2 dozen trailers. I looked though a window in one building with those appearing to be in better condition, organized - lined up or hanging. Wasn't permitted inside to look any further. Mix of everything, usual scrap to interesting. Nothing mint or choice.

Anyhow, there is an original british Lambert Grand Prix, guessing 1972 / 73. Oddball but surely a conversation piece for fun rides. Complete with all the original and rare components. Looks like this stock picture, same color (70's purple) and a smaller frame. They're sort of fussy and only for the collector. I don't think anyone would want one as a daily ride. This one still has the aluminum 'death' fork! The fork is worth keeping but highly suggest a swap out if really planning to use the bike. Has the weird center handlebar sleeve, gold anodized aluminum. Guessing it weighs 20 to 22 lbs. If anyone is interested, seller wants $150. (Would have to figure $100 for shipping too.) If the frame was larger, I would take it but willing to assist any here if interested. I could go back, get pics, serial number etc. It needs a complete and major going thru and the paint is scratched, worn, etc.

Township dump find
 

A bike I picked up in the township dump last week, guy just dropped it off due to moving and not using it anymore. I am 6'3" and I needed a bike with a 63cm or 35" standover and found this in the dump, needed a crank arm and a pedal.
It is a Nishiki century touring bike in great condition, tires, gearing, and no rust very few scratches and needed no adjusting everything works perfectly. As you get older things change, not so important to you anymore as they used to be. I am 63 and I just sold my 911 porsche in near perfect condition, I loved that car but as I said things change. He was done with it and I was looking for something exactly like it. Thats seems to be the cycle of life

One man's trash is...

Well, I like a certain old bikes, for their looks, but not so much for their riding qualities. Been there done that. Since, I started in a certain era, I have a real soft spot for their looks and technology of the time. Make no mistake, I am a big carbon fan but will always have a steel bike around or two just so I can look at them.
