Interesting write of Pantani by Armstrong.

Other: Winter warmer / cycling vids. Roku box is well worth the entertainment. I'm finally catching up with the '13 TdF all stages on Youtube TV in HD. Excellent

Where else besides NY will Nelson Vail's movie be shown? Damn... just look at him! 1984. Would probably psych out competitors.

Al those sprinters look like that, real monsters. I saw Vails in 83 racing with the big boys from GDR and CCCP in the new (then) 7-11 velodrome.

Why not a movie about Gorski instead. He was always faster and can actually beat out the giants of the sport at the time, the Russians when America was not a cycling power house. Gorski and some of those track riders really made us shine in the cycling world (lets forget about the road riders).

Well why not a movie about Nothstein? He'd spank 'em both.

But that's not really the point.

Then what's point? He's a poor boy from NY and was discovered? then why not on some of those Eastern European countries? Those guys are poor also and many still are today and many of them rise to fame or world class cyclist. Why do we focus on that so much instead of raw talent and hard work?

Had forgotten about Nelson Vails. Cool!

But as good a reason as any to post a pic of El Pirate

Why can't it just be a movie about a guy with 9 brothers and sisters who rode his bike to help take care of his family? He won some races and some medals. There were 2 really good points brought up; the first by Mark Gorski, he said he was a quiet guy from Chicago and if he DIDN'T beat Nelson, no one would know his name. The second, in cycling, nobody cared what color you were! You could either ride or you couldn't! The Russians didn't come to the Olympics because of a boycott. They didn't come because drug testing was brought out to a global spotlight and everyone on every team was doping! US media, ALWAYS needs a story, Nelson was it. This movie provides funds that go to his foundation that helps kids and the cycling community.

I think it is a great story, shows what hard work & determination can get you and where it can take you. The world needs REAL role models.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392670788.jpg

Marty can't make a movie because of his troubles with doping. Personally and when he managed the Lincoln Navigator team. Remember Obee...banned for life?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392763579.jpg

How come no one ever mention Scott Berryman. We use to call him Vail's twin. He was just as fast and just as mean and big. He rode tandem sprints with fails.

notmytarga 02-18-2014 03:54 PM

I added another stead to my rack above the Targa. This is the first real mountain bike other than mine. My son turned 11 and finally decided his 20 inch wheel faux bike was too small when I took him on a 5 mile ride to his friends house and around.
He will get an intro to flat dirt, then single track, then he'll be whipping me on the climbs in no time.

Nice Bianchi.

Marty never managed Navigators (not Lincoln, an insurance company). Their ds was Bob Beamon. He rode for them at the end of his career. O'bee was a teamate.

Not that its out of the realm that he was doing something, his thighs were ridiculous. "Couse, looking at Nelson you could make the same accusation.

Got nuthin to do with a movie, its just not the same story. Marty is happily managing the track at t-town these days.

nikita76 02-18-2014 04:14 PM

Thanks for the compliment on the Bianchi and helping me with some of my facts.

Agreed! Marty has done an unbelievable job growing several of the track programs at T-Town and getting kids involved!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1392768703.jpg
People make mistakes OR get caught up in certain circumstances, it's how a person continues to contribute in their communities that's important.
