![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Herr Oberst- Very nice Crux. My son has one and really likes it. Running 28mm Vitoria road tires on an extra wheel set for training. Added a 46 chainring for a little more top end. Cant help but put up some other shots from last season. Proud dad here… |

Top of the box! Look at those quads!
Who wouldn't be proud? (I've never had 12 speed and I've never had AXS - do you remember if you had to add links to the chain to make the 46 work?) (I like the color of his better; the choices I had were Jet Focking Black and Gold. I'm tired of seeing black bikes, so I took the Gold. Lesser of two evils I guess, but I'm still so pleased with the way this thing rides) (Already bent one derailleur hanger. I'll get a few while they're still pretty cheap and learn to be more careful)

His is the SRAM Rival - so not AXS. Also it’s the 11speed group. I think they both set up about the same. I bought an extra chain just in case - but with loosening the cage tension screw - works fine with stock chain length. Actually happy that he stuck with cable vs wireless. Last CX race of season last year (WI CX champs at trek HQ) he got knocked out in first lap f first race. Some knucklehead was “looking at his computer” and plowed into Alec’s rear drivetrain. Mangled a wheel, derauiller and hanger. DNF. And didn’t have a way to fix before second race of the day. Arreghhh. And the guy didn’t even have common courtesy to apologize. I like your harvest gold paint scheme. I’ve always liked the unique colors. Alec’s other choice was a very light gray (almost white) gloss. Also cool - but I like this color way a lot. Many happy trails for you! |

Herr Oberst - I'm curious what you think about the 1x drive train after riding it a while. Do you have enough gear range for the terrain you ride?

Yesterday, however, I borrowed a set of wheels set up for the road, with Schwalbe Pro 32's, and an identical cassette (10-44, same gear spacing) and did a 25 mile urban road ride. I got up and down all my usual hills, but there were one or two 15-18-20 percent sections that I struggled with that usually aren't that much of an issue. (But I'd also ridden my Tarmac 90 miles and 6600 feet the day before and I think my legs were a little bit tired. ) I'll test ride the CruX in a day or two when my legs recover and hopefully have a more accurate understanding. Gravel, yes; road maybe.

If you have a MAVIC rear hub that runs the cassette on carrier with an inner nylon bushing that goes bad every couple thousand miles or so, the HUB DOCTOR has invented the mother of all "IMS solutions"
![]() If you even know what I'm talking about, you get me. You know the pain. Good news- life is about to get better. In the past, I've kept my SSC rims and crossmax running by mounting larger and larger (oversized) bushings (sold by the hub doctor) Finally, I reached the end of what he offered- but then he offered something more. He abandoned the hub carrier bushing - This guy has retrofitted the entire cassette carrier with an inner sealed bearing. A pain to sand into tolerance and install. Total awesome in application. People like the hub doctor make the world a better place. It is better than factory (and reasonably priced).

At first I thought you were getting a new freehub for 52 bucks! (Then I read the fine print.)
I had no idea that this repair was a thing. I guess I better take my 2019 Cosmics apart and see if the freehub is riding on a bearing or a bushing. If it's a bushing I'll probably be looking at a new set of wheels.

I clicked on a whim, but kept watching. The sound of him decelerating in the corners sounds neet. Fun power/speed/fabrication /passing fun (although I bet it smells a little gamey in there!)

Kinda cool. I like those stats; about 33mph on the little DH, 30 on the flats at about 350 or so watts, he seems to be pretty fit, he gets 420 or so watts on the little uphill and his HR peaks around 170.
He's definitely passing riders. Must be fun to sweep past all race long.

Back when I was younger and faster, I would race with the local HPV club at PIR. I was on a short wheelbase recumbent and those with the fully-faired bikes would lap me several times in the hour road race.
I have massive respect for the guys on the hand-cycle trikes. |

That's pretty cool, Ron.
I found some more info on his creations..... And now I know which "Woodstock" we're dealing with here.... ![]()
