these are 2013 specs. Hers is a '12 clearout basically the same bike. I know squat and relied on the guy at the shop. It should be much better than her dept store special, I hope!

She did the MS bike ride this year and wants to do more. Not a romantic type gift but I know she likes to ride.

Is it a decent bike for those in the know? Giant make them up over $5k - too much for my pocket.

Well it's newish and you pay a premium, discount 20% for old stock. Mark up is likely 40%, then manufacturer rebate for left over floor models. The retailer didn't get hurt.

Components are entry level....

She'll like it....not meant to be beat on and rode 5K a year but will be serviceable for it's intended use.

Sadly my biz has had too many bad moths due to some gambles that didn't pay out and a few less than decent vendors that have harmed me.

I'll be closing down in a few months.

Anyone need a 46 year old former biz owner? It's time for me to look for work.

I am so sorry to hear that. Do you still want to be involve in the bike industry? Is there room with people like Cannondale, Shimano, Campy or large companies like that who need qualify people like yourself? The market has grown more then 10 folds compare to 10-15 years ago. Everyone has a pretty good bike in their garage it seems.

A Clydesdale checking in here. Bought a Trek Navigator 2.0 recently. Bought it to lose weight and get back in shape. 61 years old, 6 foot 232 lbs. (was up to 240) What is the best bike forum in your opinion? bikeforums.net is where I found out about the Clydesdale label.

What do you want to do, road riding or off road a bit? Thats what is going to lead you in one direction or the other.

Also do you live in a real populated area? Personally I will not ride on really busy city streets, just too dangerous.

I will not ride on heavily traveled roads. As a car driver I wonder about the intelligence of people who do so. (Death Wish?) I am interested, for now, in riding in the suburbs around my house. Very few cars.

Still trying to find a bike forum as good as this one.
I found out today that I need to stay on the "flat" until I build myself up a lot more. I had to walk the bike home the last block uphill.

No Death Wish here, nor do I think I have below-average intelligence. I just have the desire to use alternative transportation to get back and forth to work and other places that a car isn't always the best use of my resources.

Dennis,

You might have a look at your gearing then. You should be able to get the bike home without walking by using a lower gear and maintaining a steady RPM.

Getting the body used to it can take a while. I know its going to with me, its been almost 40 years since I have ridden anything I had to pedal!
