Nice old (long) spoon

Just found this in my safe...I thought I had sold it a year or two ago. Marlin Model 1893 in cal 38-55. All original parts but reblued. 26" bbl. full magazine. I have another just like it but color cased which is my main shooter. Lemme know if you're interested. Gunbroker price is $1300 but will sell for less to a Pelican. Bbl marked "New Smokeless Steel". Probably made after WWI since steel was not hardened right until then...or so I'm told. I will look up the SN and see the exact year of manufacture.

(Mod...if we're not allowed to do this you have my apology and you certainly may delete)

That's called a 'tang sight' and is pretty commonly used for longer ranges. It really can't be used with the bbl buckhorn because you can't see past the buckhorn thru the tang site. It just gives you a smaller peep type site for better accuracy and a longer sight radius. I use it all the time on my other one. I have quite a few old style rifles ...some new mfg., some old. I took the bbl buckhorn off this one. For shorter range I just basically point shoot by looking down the bbl at the front site...that works fine up to about 50 yd.

I LOVE the pop-up tangs! I think they make the lever guns look more correct! Sorta like a tail on a 911!

Nice piece! If wishes were fishes.....

Hummmm, you should load that beauty up and come down to do our cowboy silhouette match that is on the 1st Sunday of every month at the South Bay Rod and Gun Club in beautiful Dulzura CA! There are several shooters that are using original 38-55 and using black powder to boot. One a Air Force drone pilot and she is pretty good with it.

Hi John, I've been there...I think. I'm a CAS guy from back to '94. I have another one just like the one I posted but mine is color cased and I've done well with it. Mine takes a heavier 265 gr bullet to shoot well though. My SASS name is Dogface. Love that sport but like sillywet a lot too...

I reckon I just don't get out much . I've certainly seen the pop-up tangs on other rifles, but can't recall ever seeing one on a lever (mounted on the grip like that). I've got three of 'em, and that's how I carry mine...seems it would interfere. Then again, all of my levers are short-range, and I'm not shooting at the distances that Mark is. Do the tangs come from the factory like that or are they a "mod"? Still drooling...

KC,
Some did come that way from the factory...not sure about this one...it may have, but they are still being made. I have a Winchester 1886 with a factory tang. It's a very heavy rifle in 45-70 cal. The tang site on this one does not look new and would not have been re-blued with the rifle so it's possibly original. These sights were not made by the mfg of the rifle but were add ons at the time. Both Lyman and Marbles tang sights are still being made.

If you want to talk about it you can PM me and I'll give you my ph number and Skype name if you want video chat.

Hey Mark. I'm changing location on you for monday. Come to my house. The shop has been a nightmare every time I'm there in the last 3 weeks and I won't get the time and attention that your project deserves. I'm swapping days so just come to the house. That way we won't be interrupted and I can get you done and on your way. Call me if you need directions. You have my address..right? Is that John Dillinger you have for your avatar???

I would normally be all over that rifle but I just bought a 1972 Marlin 336 "Texan" in 30-30.

Sweet gun, Doc.

Great looking gun!

Not to hijack, but where is a good place to sell a gun? After buying my AR15, I'm having second thoughts, as ammo and mags are non-existent. Ammo for the 9mm and AR15-22 are readily available, so I'll keep them.

why is that rifle worth that much ?
Marlin Model 1893 in cal 38-55, odd cal ?

I always thought marlins were a cheaper copy of a winchester lever
