I have a Savannah, which to anyone who isn't familiar is part Serval.
I'm very familiar with how certain breeds of cats hunt but appreciate the lesson by RWebb.

savannah.... those things have a vertical leap of like 20 feet! i love watching youtube videos of those awesome creatures.

Well I, for one, appreciate that we have a member with the proper credentials to educate us on both the serious environmental impact of this species and its ability to jump. Who knew?

nynor 01-30-2013 02:38 PM

don't forget the part re. how we inadvertently train our cats to kill more birds....

there are lots of highly qualified people on here in various fields, including a few scientists

seems like the largest group is engineers

words have not been invented that will convince me to ever own a cat again. i love my two cats because they are already "in". but once they die..NO MORE CATS! (cue RWEBB to tell me how websters dictionary is expanding with X-number of new words per year :D)

my future cats are like Lee's inlaws..:D not gonna happen.

rfloz 01-31-2013 09:40 AM

Birds? Birds? We don't need no stinking birds.

it is not news that domestic cats are strong predators on songbirds, some of which are threatened or endangered but this analysis shows that the problem is much more severe than previously thought, besides any partitioning of feral vs. pet animals

all you guys should at least make an effort to read the actual study before posting

Many engineering studies are done the same way, Randy. We do, however, endeavor to validate the conclusions/assumptions reached at that phase of the study through other means. So do drug companies.

RWebb 01-31-2013 11:57 AM

well Jeff, what do you suggest they do? where did they fail?

- you can always publish a rebuttal in Nature

also, how much tax money was used on this study? I read the original and did not see that.

nynor 01-31-2013 12:05 PM

careful, jeff, careful. LOL!

nynor 01-31-2013 12:21 PM

and unless you publish, jeff, you cannot be correct. just saying.

RWebb 01-31-2013 01:07 PM

serious question, Jeff - ignore the troll
