Ban Assault Cats!

You don't need a cat. Won't someone think of the baby birds!!!!!

Behind cute face, a cold-blooded killer: Study finds cats kill billions of animals | KPLU News for Seattle and the Northwest

[tangential rant]The very worst kind of pure academic masturbation, and taxpayers paid for it. They did no more than study other studies. The circle is now complete - there is apparently no need for field work anymore before a grant winner can make these kinds of declarations.

This is how many modern policies are made, unfortunately.[/tangential rant]

How much do cats actually kill? [Infographic] - The Oatmeal

It's worth the click.

Both of my cats have been NBK's. Each of them liked to kill snakes, mice, birds, squirrels, etc and in mass quantities.

Do we really need a study to tell us how nature works. Next study, Yogi in woods... Charmin, corncob, or au-natural?:D

If you buy one at a shelter do you have to get a background check first?

that is awesome. i have two cats. one i am sure is a stone cold killer. i've been left several gifts, including new york style rats at the foot of my bed. the other cat.... she can't see well enough to jump on the window-sill without danger of falling into the dogs water dish.

Wasn't there some Yahoo article from last week on how some guy in New Zealand wants to rid the island country of all cats? Supposedly they are decimating the native bird population which otherwise has no natural predators.

nynor 01-30-2013 11:02 AM

yep, and the cat fanciers are yelling him down.

it seems that i've read that cats are a big problem in oz, also.

Ever try "rescuing" a pet? That background check is more extensive than one to purchase a firearm.

completely wrong - it is a meta-analysis and many of the drug studies done are done the same way

it is not news that domestic cats are strong predators on songbirds, some of which are threatened or endangered but this analysis shows that the problem is much more severe than previously thought, besides any partitioning of feral vs. pet animals

all you guys should at least make an effort to read the actual study before posting

this one is particularly stupid - cats have a good vertical leap and play with overhead string by your pet cat is practice for executing a maneuver to grab a bird as it takes off

juvenile birds are at greatest risk

nynor 01-30-2013 02:13 PM

and there is the fun police. everyone, quick, pick up your ball and leave. LOL!
