Sound advice imo, but everyone has their own set of priorities. Though I was always on call 24x7x365 for my corporate gig (systems/networking), when I walked out the door, I left work "behind" unless the phone rang. I've always valued my time more than $, and I don't even have kids. Good luck Mike...

I actually would not market outside of word of mouth.
This isn't what I do by day, by day I am a mild manner networking consultant. I help large companies figuelre out how to get packet a across the world and back smartly. Otherwise known as packet plumbing. At night or on the weekends I want to put on a little super hero cape and do some side work in my neighborhood. I'd like to include my kids in it to give them a little business experience. My oldest is very independent and probably would love it. I did run it past the wife yesterday and she was into it. |

I could, but the insurance cost of being a GC would kill me right now. The difference in insurance cost between a sole contractor like myself and a GC is astronomical.
