It's really nice to hear all of you are enjoying your RV. My brothers ownership of an RV seems to be just a big hole in which he throws money.

He bought a 2004 Monaco Dynasty IV (42ft). Cummings Diesel pusher 400hp, 4 slides, 3 overhead Dometic a/c, Onan generator, washer, dryer, etc.. It seems something goes wrong every trip.

The last trip, a 10 day family vacation to Colorado, he, the wife, 3 kids, and two dogs didn't make it but about 90 miles. Hit a deer, lost head lights and something else to do with the air system, I think brakes, the rest of the damage was cosmetic. Family vacation cancelled.

I really felt bad for the kids. Thankfully, he was towing a vehicle behind and got back home easily.

That's the way to do it.

You can also get to a lot of places a larger vehicle cannot.

One reason I bought new,lots of folks say buy only a year or two old one and save a lot off$$$

New with bumper-to-bumper warranty, I know the maintenance,

7 year extended non-exclusionary warranty $3,500 on a $150K rig.$75 deductible.

Only issue has been the satellite TV HDMI connections, but I have workarounds until I get home.

Still working your way north? How close to Seattle will the final destination be?

Hugh, your living my dream. My parents went on an Airstream caravan around all of the SW national parks last year, hitting all of the high points and having a wonderful time (63 days out), and around 4000 mile round trip for them at 78 years old...i'm thrilled that they are still so active.

The Airstream group has gotten them into places, and functions that others don't know about, and they've made great freinds, but will soon be aging out like most others do.

Hmm, not sure how a 7 year warranty is going to help if you hit a deer.....

On our 7k summer trip now. Drove from LA to Cape Charles Virginia, hitting DC, Memphis, then texas and back home in August.

Another way to look at it, the first year depreciation that Hugh is facing will pretty much cover the costs of the coach that Tim is building....but Tim won't have a warranty.

Up to Oregon and back, no incidents, other than the Direct TV flaking out, but still under warranty for another 9 months. Before the 7 year extended warranty kicks in.

A deer is under the comprehensive insurance, like a regular car.

Looked like a nice trip Hugh, did you and the Mrs enjoy the new rig?

Smashed headlight and broken air lines from hitting a deer? Am thinking a quick trip to a Napa or TSC store for some bolt on fog lights and some airline and fittings.... A couple hours later, I am motoring on with my vacation.

Warranty? In all of my 52 yrs, I have only owned one vehicle that had a warranty and it needed it... POS 1998 Dodge Dakota (NEVER again). ;):D

Wonderful time, not one “oh,schit” moment where some dumbass cut me off badly. Dumbasses going around you on the left to quickly cut you off as they take the next exit are normal. Gawd forbid I take five seconds out of his day.

I don't think he wanted to risk it, kind of need brakes in the mountains. He is the type that wouldn't trust a patch job.

We were in our big ass TT (luckily in our own backyard) this weekend, and started smelling a burning plastic smell when the A/C blower was activated. I climbed the ladder onto the roof, and started dis-assembleing the A/A unit in 95* direct sun. We got real lucky that it was only the 120V power supply, and not the whole control board. A couple of cuts, some wire skinning, and 3 wire nuts (to match the factory prep), and we had A/C again, and gained our low fan speed back again...it hadn't been working all year.

H have you ever bin through RV heaven Dumpwater, Tx where the town motto is "Come to Dumpwater to dump your stinkwater." Just tell em Elmo sent you to get a 10% discount. And be sure to take a tour of the Alpine Springs Water bottling plant on the outskirts of town...its located right down the dirt road next to the........

You need a big ass air horn, preferably from a tug boat.

Zeke, believe me, its something I'm looking at, around 150 dB ought to do the trick.

People just do not have a proper appreciation of basic physics. What does that bus weigh, 25, maybe 30 thousand pounds, how far does it take that thing to go from 60 mph to stopped, probably 600 feet, more than that maybe, not a real sporty handling thing either.

Coming home from three days at Carpenteria State Beach, stopped at a place for lunch this idiot tried to squeeze into a spot between me and another vehicle.

Scratched all the way along the side of my new RV and smashed the mirror.

At least he worked for a company that appears to have insurance.

Toby, its heavy, but ONLY 20,000 lbs. or so. Still takes distance to haul it down. I leave LOTS of space between me and them..

What a stupid move trying to squeeze in there. Hope their insurance covers it for you.

You need to do research, some car companies say their whatever can be towed, but you need to do stuff like stop every 100 miles and run the engine to lubricate the transmission (translation, we think if you run it every 100 miles the trannie MIGHT not seize up from lack of lubrication.) Even with Jeep, they make several models of the Grand Cherokee and only one can be towed, the 4X with the true neutral transfer case. Invisibrake works really well, and seems to require the least adjusting and futzing around, the Roadmaster tow system is more forgiving than the Blue OX in terms of aligning the towed vehicle to the RV.

You gets what you pays for...
