Seattle to Dallas road trip

I'm driving from Seattle to Dallas late next week. Unfortunately, no time to sight see. Google maps shows Sea/SLC/Cheyenne/Denver then west to KS and south through OK. Another option is skip KS, and bolt south through CO and NM. It's about the same estimated time and may be a bit more scenic. Anyone been on those roads lately care to chime in.

Here's the new addition.

Congrats! Did you sell the C4s?

As far SLC-Dallas goes, I'd suggest one of these two routes for more fun and better scenery, contingent on good road conditions.

I did Denver-OKC through KS for some time and it's not very exciting, to say the least. Keep in mind also that KS has a speed limit of 70, and lots of troopers.

Ok. Here is my selfish thought. I know a few roads in the PNW. I would take I-90 from Seattle to Hwy 97 Bend, Or. From there take Hwy 31 (which I really like) to Hwy 395 to Reno. Reno to Dallas is simple and involves Route 66.

What not to like?

An alternative point of view. Should be easy, fast roads all the way. Be sure to check for Mt. snow prior however.

Have fun,
Larry

Keep your eye on the weather. A friend in Boulder wrote of a snowstorm expected there this weekend. May all the roads be clear for you...sounds like a fun mini adventure.

Jeremy... You wanna talk about boring ass middle of nowhere.... That run from Raton, NM to Amarillo is hell, and then it will be more if the same to Wichita Falls, then you are on a road that I nearly get run over every time I drive it, I was nearly side swiped last night....

Dropping from SLC to ABQ would be pretty, but keep an eye on the weather.... I've been snowed in badly in that area

Difficult to improve on either of Gogar's routes.

Intercepting the route, instead of going to Alb, I would head north through Santa Fe and then south on 3 to 60 east. Stay off the interstate.

Go through Clovis and then hit any small road you want into Dallas.

I would do the entire thing, starting tomorrow, especially in that ride, Mark.

Great choice.

Jeremy,
Ginger and I got a divorce bout 3 years ago. I've been hanging out with an E36 M3 since then and hating nearly every minute of it. 996 was next on the bucket list.

Thanks for the ideas. Weather will a deciding factor in the final route.

I understand that, and I compare it to the whole KS I-70 experience, but at least if you are in NM and TX you can drive a bit faster.

Speed limit on those two lanes is 65-70 mostly, and I've been harassed more in TX than in KS... Saw a ton of troopers between Ft Worth and Wichita Falls last night... ( thank god for the V1)

Funny Jeremy... I'm just giving some recent insight on the routes... I don't love any of the routes suggested. To put it bluntly, there is no good way to get across the flat ugly part of the US. All of them have some low speed limit parts, and all have parts where getting stuck in a blizzard this time of year is pretty high. Jut watch the weather, it'll almost definitely narrow the choices for you...

Did that last summer on my motorcycle and back. Shortest:
Seattle/SLC/Price/Moab/Cortez/Alburque/Dallas via 287.

Home was a little different and about the same distance, for you would be the same to Price/Vernal/Leadville, Co./Salida, Co./Amarillo/287....

Best scenery and shortest.......

Sorry to hear that Mark...do you still have that old 911S of Warren's?

Nice car.

What's wrong with an E36?

Bob - did that drive when I moved back to Dallas. Moab area was awesome.

Paul - Annie is still here. I'm slowly gathering the missing pieces.

Randy - Neat car, but glitchy. I bought it at 60K miles. It had a rod bearing go bad at 65K. Several electrical sensors have puked throwing warning lights. 73K now and has a pesky ABS light. First and last BMW product.

Good news about Annie...thanks for posting that.

Mark left Seattle about an hour ago. Car looks fantastic and he looked ready for the long trip. God speed brother! Be careful out there.

Made it to Ontario OR tonight - about 450 miles. Cheyenne or Denver tomorrow. This is La Grande Pass OR.

Mark...weather tonight (11:00 PM the 14th) said snow level in the Cascades will be dropping the night if the 15th...but you should be well east of that by then.
Happy motoring!
