Interesting week, with some spoon pictures..
Attended the annual Brownells Gunsmith Career Fair in Des Moines, Iowa this week. Learned a lot in the seminars, met some interesting people and strengthened some previously established contacts. Dropped a few resumes and did some on site interviews and will follow up with a few more resumes sent by mail or email.
Spoke to Doug Turnbull a few times, Jon Tank from Cylinder and Slide (Roy Huntington from American Handgunner wanted me to show him my 1911), Weatherby, Independent Studio Supplies and Bart Miller (gunsmith manager for Bass Pro Shop). Also had the opportunity to display some of my work: ![]() Stock on the Winchester 94, custom 1911, 2 examples of engraving and my portfolio. The only disappointment was that Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing did not show up.

Thanks everyone.
Hugh, I will post more pictures in the near future. As our refinishing class is our last semester, that will be when everything will come together. Including a few teasers. Jim, it is a stainless frame and slide from PM Machine in Berryville AR. Bob Marvel uses these frames for a lot of his builds (if not all of them these days). They also did the slide serrations and Bo-Mar sight cuts. The parts kit was mostly Nighthawk Custom stainless parts except for the barrel bushing (Nowlin) and the grip screws (Wilson Combat). The grips are Tru-Ivory grips from Bar-S Grips. There is still a little bit of fine tuning and finishing to do but I will post more pictures when I do that. Quite a few people there commented very positively on the pistol. Engraved Zippo for a friend ![]() Unfinished grip cap on a custom Mauser ![]() Custom Mauser. Metal finishing and fine details still to be done.
