I drive a 997S every day, and its a great GT car. But 'fun'? My 2.7 986 Boxster. Laugh all you like. That was a great little car.

By far my 640HP Toyota Supra. Supercar fast, stupendous brakes and amazing handling. Even stock, these cars were better around a track than most exotics. A true world beater. And built like a tank.

68 Chevelle convertible - first car and what a blast. Only had a 350 in it but having a classic ragtop as a 16 year old was amazing.

What beats it out was my 85 GTI. That car was a blast and I put 240k miles on it between auto crossing and general thrashing over the years I owned it. Still miss that car.

Best and most fun cars?
Currently 2001 Boxster base
1999 Miata - fun cheap motoring
1972 Austin Mini - terrible winter driver, cold, could not handle deep snow but fun
1958 Triumph TR3 - sounded good but rusted to death
1958 VW Beetle - not much power, very reliable, too cold in winter, did 6800 miles in 2 weeks no problem.

Have not had the time or money to own many fun cars...

The 1984 944 was my dream car... love the look of it and most connected to the road car I ever drove... Until I got the 1996 Miata, like a driving a four wheel motorcycle...

The 1994 T-bird with 4.6 V8 gets honorable mention... not sure if it was a small luxury car or a huge sports sedan... but she ran like the wind...

My 944 is fun...but I'm still in the resto process (PO didn't take care of it too well...). Wish it had more power, and that's something I might address in the future, but for now, I'm just focusing on getting it "right."

LOVE my '09 Mustang; it's comfortable, quick, handles well and is "big" enough to fit the kids in

My latest toy is my current favorite car, though: '03 350Z. Love the handling and the power it produces, and have been in love with the looks since it came out (which is why I bought the '03--the first model year of the car). I can't wait to take it down to Mexico so I can actually test it out at speed

I may be looking back on this car with rose colored glasses, but my favorite car to drive was a little Renault Alliance GTA. It was a 2.0L with 5spd and large (for the time) low profile 195x50x15 Michelin XGT tires. The suspension was Lotus tuned and it would corner like a cat on carpet. It didn't seem to have a lot of extras on it: no delay wipers, no power brakes, non-adjustable seats. It was pretty light, had a good quick transmission, was fast, responsive and very predictable. It also got around 30mpg from what I remember. I got it used but low mileage in undergrad school and enjoyed it for on every back road I could find.

Actually, I am thinking about doing that in the future.

My most fun car was a 65SC Cab which I regretfully sold for $2500 in 1976 to buy a VW Rabbit & a Saab 96 (wtf was I thinking). My wife and I had just been married (guess that's what I was thinking) and we needed two cars and the SC was just to impractical and to expensive to maintain for near broke newly weds, so it needed to go. I got a call from Bruce Baker about 2 months later telling me he had just bought it as a parts car after the guy I sold it to pancaked it into a wall. I was pretty depressed after that phone call, but life goes on. About 2 years later I just couldn't stand not having a p-car to play with so I found & brought home a 1970 911T sunroof coupe. Needless to say $1500 even in 1978 didn't buy much, but 5 years, a lot of elbow grease and $5200 worth of body (bare metal re-paint) & mechanical (engine & trans) work brought it back to almost new. That car was pretty much the most fun I had on 4 wheels until the 944S2. Bringing it back from oblivion, the crazy awesome people I met along the way of restoring; I could probably write a book as I suspect so could most everyone on this board. Now looking forward to having the 73.5 going soon; more memories in the making!

Most fun probably the Ford Taurus SHO in 1990 or so I don't remember. That thing would scream with that Yamaha engine. Only about 200 HP but back then 200HP at the front wheels was a big deal. The DB4 was fun for 35 years but too expensive to beat on it.

Had tons of fun driving and autocrossing my '73 Opel GT and '74 Manta. Fond memories. They had their faults, but for the time I had them, they were rock solid, simple, and easy to work on and maintain. Fell in love with the whole German thing during that time. If I had a magic wand, I'd love to wave it and have that Manta back. Refreshingly free of the complexity of the '99 528i I'm driving now.
