Zeke,
I'm with you. Sam P. never did much for me, his Indy broadcasting or his driving. He only has 2 pro wins after all those years. I read his Mud Pond Express book in I was in high school. And Eddie Cheaver spent years in F1 for some unknow reason. 143 races and 9 podiums. Ouch!

My best at LRP is a touch over 1:05 in a 2.2L 911 (slight mods
) I consider my self competent on the track...That time is just 22 seconds off the all time record 43.11 or 125 MPH avg speed... I can't imagine the reaction time need to do that.... The latest ALMS cars are not even close Sam may have been a mid-pack drover... Winning Sebring isn't something most of us can claim, and ain't to shabby an accomplishment. If someone does not like his style of commentary that's fine...as the old adage says.... opinions are like..... I think its great that LRP shrugged is staid New England mores, and recognized someone who has been involved with LRP for years...

I'm not sure Sam got paid to drive... It was always my impression that he fell into the class of "wealthy sportsman" drivers. Nothing wrong with that at all - plenty of good drivers paid to play.
(If this isn't accurate flame away.)

I have enjoyed his commentary in the prerace shows, and do think he is an entertaining speaker . But was taken aback by this piece in Road & Track.
Sam Posey Doesn't Love the Porsche 911 - The Dissenter Speaks out About the Porsche 911 - Road & Track Maybe there is too much truth in it, but this one I didn't enjoy so much. This issue of the magazine was a celebration . His comments were like roasting the birthday boy. It also had a nice piece on Magnus Walker and his cars. |

Good article. I enjoyed it, thanks. And this line, HAAA!!!
"Since time began, each iteration of the 911 has started life handicapped by this flawed DNA, and many of the highly touted improvements were little more than steps toward making the 911 less bad."

![]() Just for kicks– that’s Sam Posey on the ground and the late Peter Revson pummeling Sam. It seems that Peter had a difference of opinion on what happened on the track at Riverside Raceway in 1970. Does Peter Revson have a short fuse? Well at Sebring in 1972 he got thrown out of the race because he got black flagged for passing under the yellow. He pulled into the pits and proceeded to threaten a race official. He got tossed soon after. The guy trying to break up the fight is Carroll Smith of the Shelby Team. Pete Biro took the photo. Strangely enough Posey and Revson became good friends after this incident.

wiki on Peter Revson:
Peter Revson was born in New York City, the son of Julie (née Phelps) and Martin Revson.[1] Revson was listed as # 100 in The 100 greatest Jews in sports: ranked according to achievement, by B. P. Robert Stephen Silverman (Rowman & Littlefield, 2003).[2] His father was Jewish, he called himself "half-Jewish," and he was proud of his Jewish heritage.[3][4] His paternal grandfather Samuel Morris Revson was a Russian Jew who left Russia for the U.S. to avoid conscription into the Czarist army.[5] The nephew of Revlon Cosmetics industry magnate Charles Revson, he was an heir to his father Martin's fortune (reportedly worth over $1 billion). He was a young, handsome bachelor who was described as a "free spirit" who passed up an easy life for one of speed and danger. Off the track, he led his life at the same accelerated pace. Revson piloted a 32-foot (9.8 m) ChrisCraft and courted some of the most beautiful women in the world, including fashion model and 1973 Miss World, Marjorie Wallace. He had met Wallace at the Indianapolis 500; she was an Indianapolis native who was referred to as the "Hoosier Hotshot." |
