MAC knife at estate sale
I admittedly don't know much about them, but this caught my eye in the back of the drawer of an old farmhouse kitchen. I stoned it to a nice edge and am convinced it's a nice little chefs knife but have no idea what it's worth. Not that I care for resale purposes I guess, I just couldn't turn it down for $2 (for all I know it's a $20 piece).

I see those knives in second hand stores. They are not rare, and usually very dull, but can be made nice and then they make nice users.

When I bought my place in Vermont about 20 years ago a set of MAC knives was left in the kitchen.
I think they are pretty good knives... they hold an edge nicely and are well balanced in hand..

I have used those and while the edge can be made very sharp, I find the blade too thin for me to get an adequate feeling of control. I also find that the tang prutruding from the finger side of the handle to be distracting. Probably just a personal preference thing. Even though I really don't like them, for $2 I certainly would have bought that knife. If you like how it feels, that edge can be made very very sharp and holds it well.

If you hold it "just right" by your ear, you hear Bobby Darin.
