In my line of work, my death is always a possibility. The only thing that I fear about it, is that they usually are not quick. Most tend to be of the slow and agonizing type. smoke inhalation, burning to death, being crushed. I'd prefer not to go that way, but I have to face the fact that I may not have a choice in the matter.

I don't fear death like I once did. I discovered Buddhism, and it seems like many fears have slipped away.

I just don't want to linger and cost my family a bunch of $$.
I've told them all to not make any heroic gestures on my behalf. I'm no account, and not worth it. I really want to be done at 67. Really. I'm already awful tired. I'm waiting on my mom. My oldest brother died in 1980. I can't do that to her again. Carter |

All of the books I loaned out to my hospice patients were by Thich Nhat Hanh. He has written many books about death and Buddhism. I agree. Buddhism has helped me accept death as part of life. I greatly recommend reading his work. And remember, Buddhism is not a religion, it is a way of thinking and living. Most of my patients also found that comforting because they would not feel in conflict with their religion.
