"EXPLORER" Shock Absorbers...
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, Quad Cab, 2 Wheel-drive, 5.7L engine.
The previous owner had installed a 2" lift kit on it, prior to my purchasing the truck. On the way home from work today, the front passenger side shock absorber broke. Well, not exactly the shock itself, but the pin that runs through the lower connector, with the two mounting holes that attach the lower end to the suspension. ![]() My wife was out shopping, so I called asked her to swing by the part store to pick up a pair of shocks. After hanging up, it occurred to me that the OEM shocks probably would fit because of the 2" lift. Sure enough, she gets home and the shocks she was sold weren't even close. We drove around this evening to a few stores, looking for a replacement, but just can't seem to find them. The only markings I can see on the broken shock I've removed are as follows" 91851 21081 EXPLORER C160D1 ![]() I've done some searching online, but just can't seem to locate anything that looks like it would work. Any ideas or recommendations of sites I should/could be looking at to find these thing? I've tried JC Whitney, SUMMIT, searching all the markings above, individually and collectively... ![]() Thanks! Randy

Randy, why the need to buy those exact shocks? Any replacement shock for a lifted 2007 Ram should work, they normally specify the acceptable range of lift. I'm sure you can easily find Ranchos or something similar.

Matt, I thought it would be just as easy to find a replacement as you suggest. Maybe I'm just dealing with the wrong people. I went to a few stores yesterday evening, explained the situation, including the 2" lift. When the rep returns to the counter, the shocks they return just don't match...they're not even close.
A pair of Ranchos would be just fine! I'm not determined to find this exact shock as a replacement, although it helps to know that "EXPLORER" is the actual brand (Thanks Willtel). I found some of those during my online searching, but was ab;e to determine an actual suitable replacement. Honestly, I'm hoping to find a place that I can go and pick up the shocks myself. With the luck I'm having, I'm afraid I'd just be sending shocks back and forth through the mail trying to find a pair that fit. Surely there is some sort of sizing matrix I could use to determine exactly what's required? Randy

You shouldnt have any problem using stock shocks on a 2" lift.

Here's a bunch of choices: - Shock Absorbers
Here's some Ranchos that say they fit stock and lifted trucks: Rancho Part RS5274 - RS5000 Series Shock Absorber Bilstein 5100 are supposed to be good: Bilstein Part 24-185776 - 5100 Series Shock Absorber Sadly my local parts stores are so bad that I rarely even try. They are often wrong and stock very limited inventory.

Vinny,
Unfortunately, this hasn't turned out to be the case. The guy at Auto-Zone brought out one that was the "OEM" shock absorber. It was easily 3/4 of the size of the shock I'm replacing. Several inches shorter... Locally, I'm having the same luck at Matt: Quote:

Randy, I'm sure Summit, Jegs, or any of the other big parts retailers will have tons of options as well. I just went to 4wheelparts because I knew they would have plenty of selection. I find it's easier to just order online vs driving around town and dealing with time wasting morons.
