Help - old ( 77) Corvette engine in pieces
Laying in my shop taking up space Is it worth even putting on Craigslist?
I am cleaning out junk and have a 1977 corvette engine in pieces a guy was going to rebuild and his wife said get it out. I bought tools and a workbench from him cheap on the condition the engine parts go. The block says "010" on it which I think means some extra nickle content in the block but it is not a four bolt main. Scrap it of hassle with selling it? I also have the auto trans. Suspect that my be worth something. It's not in pieces. ![]()

010 virgin bore block is desirable. Sell it on CL, it'll be gone quick.
Perfect candidate for splayed main caps. If you were closer I'd get it right now. $300 come and get it? (everything, that is) rjp

So I could mic the bores and see if it's not been re-bored - is that "virgin"? EDIT: duh - I see where you said bore after virgin
$300 sounds pretty good. Does that include the trans?

ONE LAST THING- the crank if it's what I think is a FORGED unit- worth more $$$
maybe $400 for everything- take a look at the parting line from the casting on the crank, if it's a thin line it's a cast crank- If it's about 1/2" thick and looks flattened it's a forged unit. Obviously the forged is desirable

You might take a little time to advertise with the Corvette people. In 1977, the 350 engine was pretty low on power and a lot of people junked them to put in a high performance engine. But the 70's era Corvettes have been appreciating in value and to someone putting one back together, this might actually be desirable. Not big $$$ desirable, but if all the bits are there (intake, smog crap, etc) perhaps more than a couple of hundred bucks.
Either way, worth the effort. angela

Cast crank but bore is 4" so that is good.
There is a 4 bolt main 010 block but that I do not have.

I have a '78 where the lifter collapsed and the rear main is leaking like mad. If you were closer I would snatch up the whole deal.
I wonder if it is a L48 or a L82 motor? Do you have a picture of the valve covers? Speedy ![]()

Also in chain housing on block there is an 010 and a G26. Cams look pretty pointy on the lobes - not a heavy breather - but I doubt many were in the late 70's. ![]() ![]()
