Bomb threat at my daugher's school

From the letter emailed to parents:

At approximately 2:50 PM, the administration was informed about a note written on a tile in the boys’ locker room. The contents of the note included a generic bomb threat that did not specify a date or time. The note was reported by two boys to the gym teacher.
As specified by our crisis training, the following procedures were followed:
• The situation was reported to the local police.
• It was decided that students would be sent home at 2:58 PM, which is the usual dismissal time.
• After-school activities for Monday evening were cancelled.
• A complete threat assessment was conducted in conjunction with the XX Police.
• This letter was prepared for distribution to parents via email.
• Information was placed on the IMS homepage of the website.
• Bomb-sniffing dogs were called in to sweep the IMS building.
• Plans were put into place for increased security precautions at IMS on Tuesday, September 10.

Yesterday when my daughter told me I was not concerned at all. I chalked it up to kids doing stupid things. This morning, I'm more sure how I feel. I'm a little more concerned, but still have the idea that this won't happen to me. I hate to think that this a sign of the times?

Most likely it is some punk that wanted school to close so the test would be delayed.

I have no idea really but I wonder how many real bombs are ever planted when there is a threat scribbled on a bathroom wall. I would GUESS it is a very very small number.

We'd have a few each year, back when I was in the school (early 80's). And yes, I think it was timed to kill a test or quiz.

Last month, police discovered some crude explosive devices left in the parking lot of the middle school.

Sign of the times. It's getting warm and smelling like wicker around here.

If they blew it off and it ever ended up being real, there'd be hell to pay. Nobody wants to be "that guy".

I bet it was a prank or as has been said, just some kid wanting to get out of a test they didn't study for. Of course nowadays they'll run the thing through the FBI crime lab and then send the paramilitary black-suited wanna-be SWAT ninjas to (mistakenly) kick in the door of the kid who lives across the street in the middle of the night, drag him off with a black hood over his head, hold him in detention for a week, probably waterboard him and have him sign a coerced confession and the kid will grow up with any and all of his future dreams destroyed. That's okay though because he'll be able to run for elected office someday and will probably win.

Do I think whatever kid did it is stupid? Yep. Should they be punished if caught? Yep. Do they need a police record that'll follow them for the rest of their life? Nope.

When I was in HS someone phoned in a bomb threat during exams. Hoping to delay them no doubt BUT they called into the main office from the phonebooth in the hall across from the office. (visible thru the glass wall at the front of the office. Funny as they hung up they turned to leave the booth and ran into the principal. Too funny.
