My Hot Rod project

I'll be pulling the body off the frame and completely stripping it. The body will then be dipped. I will then know exactly what repair the body needs. This is the scary part, but the body is very clean without patch panels in the doors or quarters. It then will be sent out to be chopped and for all metal repair.

Is there potential for problems down the road when acid (?) dipping car bodies?

I haven't been keeping up with the restoring biddness. In the past, High end resto guy wouldn't touch acid dips with a 10 foot pole. They said the acid comes creeping out a few years down the line......no matter what is promised on the neutralizing front.

That was my thought. It's so clean and original looking. It seems a shame to mod it.

Don't they make repro or f/g bodies for that sort of thing?

And PLEASE, whatever you do, DO NOT put a Chevy in there. EVERYONE has a bowtie motor. They're like belly buttons. Why would you want to be like everyone else??

That sure is a nice looking car as it is Dean. Have you thought of a resto mod approach, retain the outer appearance of the car but put in modern running gear and nice interior with mod cons?

This would really stand out in a world filled with chopped, fender less hot rods. And make it very useable.

This will be fun to watch, how ever you decide to go with it. I'm sure we all will come aboard and and cheer you on with your project.

My father has a 1940 Ford that was dipped nearly 20 years ago and it has held up fine. I dipped some of my Bronco parts and they seem ok 5 years later. I'd do it again, very gentle and through paint and rust removal.

You can still see the factory markings under the hood in this picture.

What's wrong with a Chevy? How bout a 350 with camel hump heads, Muncie 4 speed, 4:11 Posi a moderate hyd cam and the Holley 600 Vac secondary on an Edelbrock Manifold and CHROME valve covers?

You know the one that Car Craft has been running the same "how to" article for the last oh, 40 years or so?

Seriously, how about a polished out Northstar V8?
