Pittsburgh Pirates - Best Record in MLB
I know this thread will get the as much traffic as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in January but I've been a fan for goin' on 48 years. The Pirates have a major sports record, (NFL, NHL, MLB, & NBA), of 20 straight losing seasons dating back to Barry Bonds leaving the Pirates vis free agency. The curse of Barry Bonds will be over this year!
See ya

Dang Ben, loved the Brewers of Molitor, Gordon, Cooper, Yount. Rollie Fingers was on that team also wasn't he? They had such an awesome team, just a team of mudders, but gooood mudders.
They should have won that World Series

All well and good, but many here are not anticipating anything yet. No awards for the best record in July, which from the last few seasons, looked like what they were aiming for. This thing is going to end in a monumental way, either a major implosion or a World Series favorite. We will see how they handle it.

That would be great. I'm staying at like a Hilton or something right next to the ballpark, (no driving!). I'll have all day Saturday as the game is 7:05 that night. I am probably going to visit David, TargaS also. I'll shoot a PM next week.

The only problem has been that they find a way of selling off their talent to save money. The team makes a nice tidy profit and big salaries have a way of cutting into this. This has been the major reason I have banned myself from baseball in general. Hopefully they will open their wallets and pay these guys finally.

Jinx man... Don't jinx it...
This was a quick cure to ward off bad luck found on the interwebs.. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2008/03/cant_touch_this.html I look kind silly right now but this is serious stuff... ![]() The Bucs are finished selling off the talent. The new owner said a few years ago that he wanted to rid the team of all traces of losing when he traded off jumping jack flash (Jack Wilson.) FWIW I was at the 1992 NLCS game 5 at Three Rivers.

Willie Stargell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I lived in Pittsburgh for both of those Word Series and was lucky enough to have spent time with the family. I have great memories of Mr. Stargell playing with me after a family dinner one evening and amazing everyone by having one of the family cats jump up in his lap for pets. Amazing because this was an ornery old cat that wouldn't go near anyone, including us. The 70s were not a great time to be in the Steel business, but the sports teams more than made up for the challenges. The Pirates have not had a good run for a long time but they none the less have a lasting legacy.

My family moved to the Dayton Ohio area in 1968 from the Pittsburgh area. Had to put up the Big Red Machine all those years of my childhood, hated them, hated Pete Rose. In hindsight they were an awesome team, maybe one of the best ever. But I stayed true to the Pirates and got to enjoy the 2 World Series championships.
Think about this... The Orioles had four 20 game winners on that 71' staff. Every game of the WS the Pirates faced a 20 game winner. Now 13 game winners win the Cy Young award. Amazing how the game has changed. I was a huge Clemente fan but Willie Stargell in the 79' Series was the team leader and just a great player. He willed the Pirates to that championship. It's great to hear he was a nice man also. Anyone remember Bob Prince saying "Lay some chicken on the hill Will"? Since 1960 us Pittsburgherers, (is that what we are?) have been very fortunate... 3 World Series, 3 Stanley Cups, 6, countem' 6 Super Bowls, and 1 NCAA football championship. And the university's basketball team is a perennial winner although they crap out during the tournament.

Yes I am....I grew up hating the Pirates and those stupid softball uniforms and ugly hats. Stargell, Blast, Manny Sanguillen coming in and beating the Fightens...the "we are family" years ahhhhh! You grow up a Phillies fans in the 70's and very early 80's you hated two teams, the Reds and the Pirates.
Second question? Maybe
