I like leather.
|
Oh I'll just bet you do Mike! I assume black leather?
Naughty, naughty boy. ;) angela |
Leather is heavy to carry and it doesn't stand up well if checked.
|
Leather is heavier, and certainly expensive. But there is a feeling of quality that comes with well made leather goods that is just not the same with other materials. I use nylon and poly products for my travels, but if money were not an object, then it would be quality leather luggage.

My suggestion would go with Travel Pro. Same bag Commercial Pilots and stewardesses use.

If you want to see an in-depth discussion on luggage, head to FlyerTalk.
I love leather too - but not for daily use luggage. You want to let a cabbie throw it in the back of a ratty cab/rickshaw/tuk tuk/etc. on top of his jumper cables without flinching; if the F/A won't let you take in on board and says, "check it or miss the flight"; Watch the bellhop stack the bag on top if the ratty umbrella stroller; et al. Plus, leather is a better theft target than the ubiquitous black ballistic nylon bag. I want my luggage to blend in, not stand out. Briggs and Riley makes outstanding stuff. Great quality, Guaranteed for Life. I use a costco wheeled bag, if it breaks, costco will take it back. |
I use a Tumi shoulder bag, carry-on size.
For short trips (2-3 days) it is only half full and can always fit in the overhead, even if the overhead is "full" I can put the bag in front of the rollerbags and close the door. For those trips the bag is light, and easy to carry for a long time, my computer briefcase weighs more. For trips of a week, the shoulder bag is full and needs a regular spot in the overhead, it is still okay to carry walking through the airport or for several blocks, not effortless but I figure I can use the exercise. I guess they don't make ths model anymore, but there are plenty of similar bags. |

But I'm guessing you're a guy that likes to get it all done with carry-on right? |
Yes, one bag and no I have no intent of ever checking it unless its at the gate and any cab I take I always have my stuff at arms length. As for a bellman taking it? Again, I have no intent of letting it leave my sight - thats how I am with my disposible ones now.
