Anyone in the Seattle area? Know about tours at Boeing?

Have a good friend of mine who is going to Seattle in a month or so and they mentioned that they would like to tour Boeing.

Anyone ever done this? I used to work for the factory but only toured the St. Louis and Long Beach facilities.

Could use some ideas or connections please!

Thx,

Joe

The Museum of Flight certainly is worthwhile.

Maybe Higgins will chime in on Boeing. All that I know is that they used to offer public tours (Everett plant) but dk if still offered.

Yup, public tours of the Everett plant are still available. There's a cool little museum that's a part of it now as well. Everett buils the 747, 767, 777, 787, and tanker.

I have to honest with you, its a bit of a snooze. Would I tell him to not go? No, but temper ones expectations. The 747 line is pretty cool if people are working. The 787 line is boring. They're not 'building' the planes, they are being assembled from larged finished pieces.

Jeff,

Thanks for chiming in... anything special that they need to know about doing the tour? Any special tours that are not advertised? Its a "brother and sister" situation and the Brother works for a major Nascar team, so is pretty tech friendly and likes airplanes...

Thx,

Joe

Come on Jeff...........pretend he's a vendor, meet him in the 40-88 lobby to get badged in and give 'em a behind the scenes tour, and have him bring you some broken nascar parts for the little blue car and some liquor as part of a bribe.

Even the standard factory tour is cool thing, remember these planes have wing spans over 200 feet the the wing tips, and the top of the vertical fin is wayyyyyyyyyy up there.

Museum of Flight (in Renton) is incredible. The original Boeing factory there is really neat.

There is also a "factory" tour in Everett. The factory tour is cool, but someone who isnt interested in planes would be bored.

Sorry Joe, I really don't know much about the public tours. Never looked into them - I get to wander freely about any time I want. I used to bring the wife and kids to "family day", so they never have done the tour either. I have heard good things about it, though, and that it is definitely worthwhile. They'll have a good time.
