The Saab 9-5 looks like a lot of car for the $$ and feedback I received from several car guys is that the 9-5 is better quality (more Saab) than the 9-3.

Far from Canada but an idea Saab 9-5

I have a 2001 9-3 SE convertible. I bought it for my wife. If you are handy with tools then it is an easy car to work on (just replaced the clutch). I have found it to be reliable and actually nice to drive around in....when she lets me use it...LOL. I would buy another of the same vintage or earlier. Mine is the 205hp turbo, and I only use synthetic oil.

For me, it would be a 900 Turbo, or 99.

Only in:
Coupe,
2-door,
light color preferably.

It isn't the first impression that counts, it's the driving and quirkiness that makes you love this car. -Things like the windshield, and ignition placement.

It is solid, fast, and a lot of fun.

I had 5 Saabs. All were good cars but all had their trouble spots. I agree with the comments that Saabs got less and less fun with each new model. GM slowly sucked the life out of the company. The best one I owned was an 86 9000 turbo, that car was a rocket on boost. Horrible turbo lag but once it spooled the torque would rip the wheel out of your hands and give you instant whiplash...all while carrying a ton of stuff in the back.

Top Gear did a good job with their Saab tribute.

A tribute to Saab, part 1 (series 18, episode 5) - BBC Top Gear

I don.t know if it sold in the US, but the 9-3 with normally aspirated 1.8 litre Vauxhall/Opel/ GM Ecotec is an extremely economical car for its size, albeit without sparkling accelaration,
but in an excellent chassis(SAAB designed, with rear wheel steering) with good brakes, ride, roadholding. And cheap to buy used. Change the timing belt/waterpump every 36000 miles-parts prices are cheap-e.g waterpump $36- any garage can work on them, Spare keys, in England, are easy to get incidentally, and parts are readily available.

I have a friend that parts out Saabs and does service on them. He keeps my 2006 9.3 Aero wagon running for very little money. It has the V6, not great on gas as I like the turbo but not a bad car. Has a few squeaks and a bit of road noise, not an Audi for sure. If I had to take it to a dealer I would not own it.

thats quite exciting news, but I'm pretty sure in pheonix company 101 handbook restarting a car company that has been in trouble, with an electric car might not be a great idea!? maybe it was the only way NEVS could buy saab?

Loved the old 900 series but i have to agree they lost their touch after gm moved in even if they disregared most of the gm orders about using components from opel to save money. The misses has a 9-5 wagon with the 2,3 enigne and as said they do have oil problems and failiures are not that uncommmon not to mention that its not a nice car to drive the transmission feels like its been geared for a v8 and there is no bottom end tourqe. Go for a BMW 5 series now thats i drivers car.
