Like URY914 said, "... the truck lines are paying the school for drivers. The school is probably owned by one of these trucking companies."
So where is the scam he is talking about?

Yes, I know... only watched it to see the trucks, loads, etc.

I've been in -50 degrees... but not for days and days like that.

They must never shut the engines off.

I have a few friends that have drifted casually into trucking over the years. From what I understand, these recruiters aren't always forthcoming for what you are really signing up for. You usually have to commit to 1-2 years with a company to be "sponsored".

What they don't tell you is that you is that you will be an indentured servant until your required time is up. You will get the crap routes and be put into situations where it might be impossible to both follow DOT regulations and keep your job. The threat of being fired and owing thousands of dollars for trucking school will be used to beat you down repeatedly. Depending on the "sponsor", they may just fire you when your year (or two) is up because they no longer have leverage over you.

I know people that the above has not been the case, but they didn't get "sponsored" for trucking school either...they grew up on farms driving corn to silos and got their CDL by taking the test.
