Or salvage title. Lots of those in TX, I think they take them into Mexico for cheap repairs then bring them back to sell them.

fastfredracing 01-09-2014 11:06 AM

Who was it that told me they will never be sub 10 k cars? I am anxious to see what the new year brings.

fastfredracing 01-09-2014 11:07 AM

That one does reak of scam though. I hate it when people do not list their phone # on for sale ads.

I don't think you'll ever see good honest well-documented 996s as sub-$10k cars. Neglected, high mileage, salvage, beat up cars - absolutely, which should make damn good track cars. It's still a challenge to find a nice Boxster for under $10k, and the 996 will always stay above the Boxster in pricing.

JavaBrewer 01-09-2014 12:01 PM

I never post my phone # in online ads. When posting to CL I use their auto-generated email alias to filter out scams and flakes. All my ads clearly state that if the ad is still up then the item/service is still available or needed. Responses that look promising get my immediate attention using my actual contact info. Works for me.

I think in another year or two the 996 prices for running clean cars will crater at the $12K mark. Plenty of low miles examples still running around and available are keeping prices unrealistic at $20+K.

There are good early Boxsters here in CA all the time for $8k. Under 100k miles with records and no salvage. I think the 996 will get to under $10k in the next 10 years, if you adjust for inflation.

Here, $5k Boxster, 98k miles, 5 speed.

You guys are ground zero for Porsches though. When I car shop it's normally within 500 miles of Wichita, it's still hard to find a genuinely nice no stories well documented Boxster for under $10k. There's plenty of them out there but they need a top, have accident history, no records, rough condition, etc.

As for the car you posted, I would have probably 30 questions for that guy. Service records? Accident history? Maintenance completed? The pictures suck, all that I can tell is that it's spent a lot of time in the sun. It's also an absolute base model and the most undesirable year. That car would not meet my criteria for a nice car.

Edit: this is more like it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-cars-sale/790455-1999-porsche-boxster-low-low-miles.html

Well documented, clean, IMS and clutch done, low miles, $10,500. Claimed no accidents, though I'd be curious where the rear Boxster badge went.

aigel 01-09-2014 08:19 PM

For $5k, who cares, if it runs and goes down the road straight? That's Miata pricing!!!

Has this one been discussed? A bit spendy, but damn that is one nice looking 996!

Just came across this one near me. Sent him a note to see if IMSB was done. 51k miles, aero kit, etc. May have a look depending on IMSB answer.

Porsche 911 Carrera 1999

That's a great looking car, and well priced considering the mileage.
