I used GT3Tek for my front spoiler and was pretty happy, especially for the price. I'm not sure if they offer a true turbo or GT3 look bumper or body kit, but they have multiple 996 options. I contacted them through Rennlist (they are a sponsor) and got 10% off.

With or without, that's a decent price.

Chocaholic 01-14-2014 09:50 AM

It's without. Guy had no idea what an IMS bearing was. Still may have a look...

onewhippedpuppy 01-14-2014 10:09 AM

For the price, it's worth putting an IMS in as PM.

JavaBrewer 01-14-2014 01:20 PM

Agreed. If the color and options are right negotiate with seller on price to account for IMS. Replace the AOS and water pump 'while you are in there' and then drive the heck out of that car.

Thanks for the tip Matt, I checked them out but unfortunately they don't have a full front bumper like I want.

In the spirit of things here's another 911 1999 Porsche 911 Cabriolet in a cool color, close to brg

I think that is the first time I've seen that color combo. And with the carbon interior, it's definitely an interesting car. Not so sure about the color-matched wheels, however.

And why isn't the top up in any picture?

I'm also not a big fan of the yellow headlight covers but I'm guessing that would be easy to fix.

If I was in the market I would be all over that car.

How bad is the e-throttle vs the mechanical cable throttle?

onewhippedpuppy 01-15-2014 08:00 PM

I think the cable throttle is more linear, but don't consider the e-throttle an issue. After a few days with my 2000 I had adjusted to the more jumpy response and it was no longer an issue. Now it is second nature.

Bad?

I've driven my 2000 996 as a Daily a Driver for almost 8 years and 115,000 miles during that time, and have an '84 Carrera with Steve Wong's chip. I have never noticed any sort if meaningful lag in throttle response. It's excellent. Feels as good as my cable throttle'd Carrera, to be honest.

I had someone. who I won't name. that pretty much does nothing but drive cars... for a living.. drive my Boxster S.. and this someone spent a lot of time talking about how great the earlier cars like mine were because of the cable throttle and the the throttle by wire throttle bodies had just ruined the driving experience of the newer Porsches. On and on he said this as he was driving my car.

My car was a throttle by wire car.

Lol. If you drove them back to back you might be able to tell, though now that they are 10+ years old you'll probably find variability between cars as well. There IS a difference between the 996.1 and 996.2, but that's because they made some pretty big changes.

This looks like a good buy.

He should drop the BIN price, based on the bidding and number of watchers I bet he can do better.

1990C4S 01-16-2014 09:02 AM

What sort of real world mileage do you guys see? I'm thinking of a 996 commuter for next year.

onewhippedpuppy 01-16-2014 09:15 AM

I'm normally 18-20 MPG in town, 25-26 MPG on the highway.

BReif61 01-16-2014 09:22 AM

I averaged 22-23 when I had mine. Best tank was pure highway and was 27.

JavaBrewer 01-16-2014 10:22 AM

I'm closer to 16 mpg around town and 25 highway.
