Update on my 1999 996 purchased last August for. $12,500.

Put four new tires on it, had all fluids changed, new water pump and thermostat, oil change. Still will need about $500 of maintenance that was not due at time of purchase.

It now has 77,650 miles, almost all from 400 mile round trips from Austin to houston.

It is a great car. Very comfortable, enough power, cheap to insure and fun to drive.

Will go in for an oil change next week and another inspection for any problems.

The turbo above was the subject of a Pano article last year I think. Cool story about the couple who owned it. The craigslist ad is linked on BAT now.

I remember reading the article on Pano.

The original owners sold it after the last couple of service repairs exceeded $10K each time.

I am still looking too, but the weak Canadian dollar limits my options, a $14,000 car becomes $20k for me.

Prices seem to have bottomed out. I could be wrong...

Not bad for pretty much a brand new 996 C4S.

Well, it took almost a year of looking, but this one owner, low miles creampuff was worth the wait.

My employment situation has changed...looking for a 996 within a few hundred miles of Detroit.

Ideally an AWD 6 six speed.

Sold my '89 964 and bought this C4 44k creampuff, it looks like it just came off of the showroom floor. Had it shipped from Utah to Maryland.

In your looking for the car, any guess'timate on the difference to go to a similar 997?

Long term goal is to end up in a second generation 997. That said, I'm in the middle of restoring an e28 M5 and budgeted the 964 monies between buying the nicest 996 I could find and throwing the rest at the M5. I'm really impressed so far with the 996, tremendous bang for the buck.

does the C4 tend to have less 'tail first into the trees' incidents?

On the R-word website there is a bunch of chatter about the engine having a 'tick' and what that means in terms of engine life.

Is this car anywhere close to you? At $7,500 I might buy it.

I guess the 964 market was pretty strong and you wanted more modern driving experience?

964 and newer look sooooo good in red. never cared for the older 911's in red but wowzer great on 996.
