Yup, if I was looking for a project car I would pop. I'm looking at a daily driver with good mojo - I have a feeling this car was a druggie car or worse...a spoiled rich kids!
Cars are like women, if you abuse their outside and inside pretty soon they breakdown sooner than later and when they break it ain't pretty...

Mike, if that is your price point and you want a no issues car, I would stop looking at turbos. $28k will get you a mint NA 996. |

The 911 water cooled platform is pretty benign. Mike is right - it needs a turbo.

That's a real turd. You want a black interior if possible, (dark grey would be second choice). It doesn't show its age as badly.

The gray interiors on the 996's... so ugly to me.
Also, watch out of the cars with the carbon fiber accents on the interior trim. They goto hell with age, they aren't UV coated well so they yellow, and the stuff up by the defrost vents peels up if the car is left out in hot sun a few times. It's not easily fixable.

Mostly true with the carbon fiber, I posted a thread about the issues with my factory CF trim. About 1/2 of mine is sun faded and/or finish cracked, my defrost vent trim is totally missing, and my outer vent trims are peeled up on the ends. Fortunately it can all be refinished with a little bit of labor, and I'll cut new defrost vent trim with sheet CF from Dragonplate. Worth noting in regards to the factory CF trim, you could pretty easily pick up the standard plastic trim bits from Ebay for not much money, then sell the factory CF stuff to someone willing to refinish it. The factory CF package is thousands, so even parts that need refinished can bring some good coin. Bottom line, I wouldn't reject a good car because of some faded trim.

The 3.4 and 3.6 motors all have an IMS bearing by design. Most never experience a problem. Given the low asking and listed upgrades + service stuff having something like a LN ceramic bearing installed after the fact is not a concern. Sometime early next year my 126K mile '03 will go in for a clutch and I'll toss in the LN bearing for safe measure.

I'm not Mike, and the car in question isn't a Boxster. It is an option code - a full leather interior in the same color as the original Boxster concept car.
It is specified in a car I'm considering right now. I like the color, wondering how well it holds up/wears, etc. Here's an example of full leather Boxster red in a 993:

If you like the interior color then great. I think color is a rather significant consideration in selecting a car. That said I think your taste in interior color is more refined than most

Love it! Reminds me of the burgundy interior in my 951. Just be warned that it is prone to fading, at which point it becomes a washed out nasty orangish red. I went to look at a 986S earlier this year that was "like new", in person it appeared to have spent all of its 11 years in the Texas sun. The years were not kind to the Boxster Red interior.

Let me rephrase my question: Would a replacement engine still need the LN ceramic installed as a precaution?

That was what I was wondering. So rather than fix it they figured lightning wouldn't strike twice.
Nice.
