I called as soon as I saw it. Sales manager said he would hold it for me while I made the three hour dive there. A few minutes later, he called back to say one of the sales people had a buyer on the way from Atlanta!

I like the color - yellow with black interior. Six speed too.

In 1999 they had 4 colours of Silver. Arctic Silver Metallic, Mirage Metallic, Polar Silver Metallic, Slate Grey Metallic and there was Metallic Color To Sample & Non-Metallic Color To Sample. Which are basically 2 more Silvers. Of 22, 1999-2000 cars on ebay 14 are Silver.

Do these come up very often? I might have to make the run up 26 sometime if they do.

I'm not a fan of yellow cars at all but there was a gal several years ago where I worked that had a 996.1 in yellow, like the picture above, and I remember thinking how gorgeous it looked. That shade of yellow works very well on that car.

This is the first time I've seen one this cheap. I found it on Used Cars, New Cars, Reviews, Photos and Opinions - CarGurus

From what I understand, it was a trade in and they posted it before they were to take it to the auction this week.

I might go see that car...probably not much wrong with it.

I would be interested in people's thoughts on that car.

Fastfred: I assume you are not interested in it?

It's also lowered and looks to have a full leather interior.

I bet if you run an OBDII scan it will have misfires. Really common to have misfires with old coil packs after the car has been wet, like when it has just been detailed. I think aftermarket coil packs are $35 each on Pelican.

Thanks for the info, that sounds logical.

I'm probably heading over to see it this weekend.

I have been tempted by that ad. It is not too far from me. But, the tone of the seller puts me off a little bit. "I do not know whats wrong and I dont care." I realize that he may have been frustrated and put off with the car not running after it got wet. But, he listed it over two weeks ago and it is still listed. I think if it is the coil packs as Matt suggests, things would have dried out by now.

It could be a clever ruse to cover up a dead hole, or the timing chains ready to fly , but you never know, could be quite simple . I figured if it was still running, with no serious smoke, or unusual noises, it may be worth a shot.
I have seen used motors as low as 6k in recent months.

Porsche has quit making M96 long blocks, so used engines are getting pretty pricey.

Several years ago I bought a used 986 Boxster with a high RPM misfire (blinking CEL), the previous owner has spent almost $2k at two different shops who couldn't find the problem. He was basically done with the car, so I gambled and got a pretty good deal. $35 and 10 minutes for a new coil pack later I had a really nice little 986. Once those coil packs go bad, they go bad. Often times the first sign is misfire when wet as they crack and allow moisture in.

If he will let me drive the car I will go there Saturday. If not, well, good luck selling it, because a 996 with a bad engine is a $6k car.

I thought I'd call again on the yellow 996 and was told it SOLD TODAY to a guy from Kentucky. Not Atlanta.

WTF!

Of course if the guys from Atlanta didn't buy, it makes me wonder. Still would have been worth the 3 hour drive to put it to rest.
