Full leather is nice, but you really have to be careful and take care of it. I've seen a lot of full leather cars, including one that I owned, with puckered or shrunk dash panels due to sun damage. The base interior isn't fancy, but it wears like absolute iron.

Funny when I think about my 911SC how expectations have evolved. Nobody in their right mind would describe a classic 911 as "luxurious" inside.

A couple of decent looking 4's...second one is a bit rough but cheap.

Is silver that popular of a color? Seems 75% of 996's are silver.

Yes, silver appears to be #1.

Not enough of the dark blue and red cars out there.

No kidding. A shade of red or blue would be my top two. Followed by the green or yellow. Silver and white are pretty much the bottom of the list for me!

Seems like they made a bunch in Arctic Silver or Black. Arctic isn't even the best silver, GT Silver is way better. I love the 996 in GP White, with Seal Gray being a close second.

At the risk of sounding dumb, how can ya tell? I'm not an expert on these cars by any means.

Is that interior all made out of naugha-hides or is some of it leather?

I prefer in no particular order red, yellow and white. Then black. All with a tan interior.

+1 - I've looked at a full leather 996 dash that did not age well, and for lack of a better description, looked like a botched circumcision ;-( Even priced a replacement for giggles and it was not worth attempting.

Sammy, the base interior is plastic/vinyl dash and door panels, with the front seat faces being leather. I would consider it to be a perfectly acceptable interior from a quality standpoint, it's not fancy but fits well, doesn't fall apart, doesn't typically rattle, and is very robust. The "full leather" adds leather dash, door panels, and rear quarter panels. The easiest way to tell is to look for the stitching across the top face of the door panel, above the side airbag and in-line with the door grab handle. There is also stitching across the face of the instrument cluster and along the top of the rear quarter panels. The leather has a different texture than the vinyl/plastic but it's hard to see in pictures. There are additional packages to add leather wheel airbag cover, leather covered vents, leather covered center console, and probably a bunch of other stuff that costs an obscene amount of money when new. The leather looks nice but it shows scuffs, scratches, sun wear, dirt, and just about everything else worse than the standard interior.

I can take some pictures of the Metropole blue interior in my 996TT if anyone wants. I have the stitching like Matt points out, as the TT came with the full leather standard. Mine has held up well, but with only 36,xxx miles I am guessing it spent a lot of time inside.

I don't have any vents or fancy stuff covered in leather.

Do it don! I don't like silver but I'd live with it for the right car. Or wrap it!

A wrap is really the way to go. I bet a silver base with red or even blue would look great.

Oh will someone think of the senseless slaughter of the poor naugha's!!!!

My number one consideration when buying a car is dollar signs, color is pretty far down the list.
Especially now that you can get a car wrapped.
Mind you I'm not a huge fan of the red interior they put in some 996's... nor would I jump on the baby poo yellow/green that they are painting some cars now.

This is 3M gloss green envy

This or matte riviera blue, or satin ocean shimmer(gay name for a nice color) would look cool on a 996

Think I read that the targa adds around 200 up around the roof area... not great in a sports car but I would still be very tempted to get one just because they are so cool.

Plus I think my days of getting sideways and needing super sporty car are past... a nice GT with a rollaway roof would be the bee's knee's!

Mike if you come get that car, you need to bring it by the shop and get a chip tune for it. Wake it up a little bit! . I can go take a look at it for you if you'd like?
