Dunkin' Donuts' coffee of all varieties is very good.
I don't do decaf.

If you are determined to find one, visit some of the coffee shops in your area and sample some. Chances are some local boutique type place will have an acceptable product.

This thread reminds me of trip overseas to London where my wife went into a store and asked for caffeine free diet coke. The guy behind the counter asked "what's the point?"

creaturecat 02-23-2014 09:42 AM

the point is that decaff does not have caffeine. caffeine can cause issues.
comprende?
the fact that YOU "don't want it" has nothing to do with this thread.

Dude, lighten up. :) I do get it.

In fact, if you read my ENTIRE post, I did provide a suggestion on how I would find an acceptable product.

Just in case you missed this:

I don't drink decaf, so no help here. I have had some decent restaurant decaf, but the brand was unknown, and I didn't even think to ask until much, MUCH later.

You want water processed, not chemically removed. Big difference.

See, this is what happens when you drink decaf!

I thought they had all shifted from chemical solvent extraction to CO2 extraction years ago (?)

Spent some time in the hospital with heart issues back in November. The cardiologist says no more regular coffee! So, now the heart problems have been resolved, but I am having trouble finding a decaf that doesn't taste like c__p. The latest one that I have tried is the "Chock Full O'nuts" brand which is the best so far. The search continues! Thanks for the suggestions.

I recently bought some of the Newman's Own, it's pretty good.

Otherwise I buy some locally roasted stuff which is spectacular.

Yeah, not to be a dick, but this would be my take also.

SB Cafe Verona and Pete's MDB - both are très bien!

Fred, hope you make your way to 100% health.

As far as a decent decaf, like I said hit your local coffee shops and taste some. I would think you find something acceptable.

I love Choc Full O'Nuts, Fred...and also 8 o'clock per David's post.

Yeah like Harry said - hope your ticker stays ticking!

I have been decaf only since the late 80s. Im kind of a hyper guy so I don't need the caffeine. I consider it a public service keeping me off caffeine. That said, I have always liked the smell and the taste.

My favorite is Dark Magic Decaf Kurig. I like strong decaf...how's that for an oximoron. I like Dunkin Decaf and for cheap stuff, I like folgers. If you want really cheap, the decaf from walmart isn't that bad either, you just have to use more to get a nice thick taste. I tend to take my coffee pretty strong...without sugar.

I don't like starbucks decaf...tastes burnt and empty. I am sort of anti-starbucks though, so I am sure there is a psychosomatic component.

Regarding the "what's the point" comment. I know it is only in jest, but it does get annoying that about half the people who see I only drink decaf say this exact quote, usually a few times a month. If the point is to get caffeine, why not just take a caffeine pill?

Interesting point. A while back I used to work with a caffeine researcher. He said that some experienced coffee drinkers can tell as little of a 1 mg difference (standard cup I think is about 100 mg). That said, I do not think there is much of flavor component to caffeine.

HarryD 02-24-2014 08:55 PM

Needspace. Good points.

I find most Starbucks to have an average to bitter taste. I was very said when my local place gave up selling Illy coffee which I found very likeable.
